State of elite in 2024

Good work so far, just a few notes on future development

9 high CZ on foot are the influence equivalent to 1 low CZ in space

Where’s the motivation to engage with this content?

Also some of the mats required to fully G5 your on foot gear is borderline impossible to find. Settlement plans for example

Consider an on-foot melee kill from behind (halo reach inspired knife animation)

SCO cooldown icon?

Just like FSD cooldown, shouldn’t be hard to implement QOL improvement

Why are horizons settlements still a thing
Or skimmer / commodity POIs. Useless

Why are there’s so many mats and commodities without a use / purpose

New AX content is good first experience but poor replayability

Please fix the camera bug for PvP

Do you find it fun? Why wouldn’t a space battle involving lots of starships have more influence than a foot fight involving people in suits.

Don’t people sell those from carriers?

Yes a much requested QOL improvement.

Why are horizons settlements still a thing
Or skimmer / commodity POIs. Useless
Because Horizons is still a thing, not everyone in live runs Odyssey.

Why are there’s so many mats and commodities without a use / purpose
Because it would feel more like a game if everything had a purpose.

New AX content is good first experience but poor replayability
Which AX content?

OK that wasn’t the problem I was expecting from the title.

Please Fdev,

Sco (ludicrous speed drive) cooldown icon is needed
Why does Sco (ludicrous speed drive) work when leaving some planet surfaces but not others? Icon for this perhaps as well. Sco mass lock?

All materials, ship and on foot including guardian and thargoid should be mission rewards for missions of that type

We are paying millions weekly for FC upkeep, and our expensive paid crew cannot move Tritium from the main cargo to the fuel depot??? Fix that please

Why have we not heard about the big feature update in 2024 yet? The year is half over
Why have we not heard about the engineering rework in 2024 yet? The year is half over

I do love the Tharg war udpates!
I do love the look of the new Pmk2 and T8!

My first choice for the next 2 sco (ludicrous speed drive) would be Cobra Mk V (something new with the best parts of cm3 and cm4, and build for sco) and it's a small ship for ody settlements.
My second choice would be a large ship for ... ??? Exploration. Ok Anaconda Mk2, more jump range (cause more pixie dust on magic hull).

They pay better than any space CZ in terms of combat bonds per hour if you're just in it for the money.
They can be used to transfer ownership of Odyssey settlements not directly part of the war stakes (so having a large effect on the overall war outcome too might be unbalanced)
You need far less preparation to do a high ground CZ effectively than a high space CZ.

SDPs aren't strictly required - you only need them to (eventually) unlock the headshot mods, but you can also get those with much less hassle from Yi Shen.
(Still shouldn't be that large a requirement for them, but there is at least a workaround)

Why are horizons settlements still a thing
Mission destination, can be scanned for an easy source of certain data materials, would have been a bit odd if they'd just all mysteriously disappeared three years ago. Would be nice if they did more with them, though, since some of the Horizons gameplay around them is pretty good fun (if not anywhere near quantitatively optimal).

They've been talking about the Powerplay rewrite quite a lot for the last several months.

Cobra Mk V, wouldn't that be similar to a Python Mk1?

Yes.

From what I have read elseforum it seems to be related to how far from the centre of mass you are, I haven't visited any body insignificant enough to test this though.

Just as long as they aren't exclusively locked away behind having to do missions.

Big feature update is PP2 surely. They have months left to tell us about the new feature.

You missed the word more out of the above, again months left yet.

Definitely agree on the Pmk2 still deciding on the T8.

The only thing to do with an Anaconda Mk2 would be to get it to turn in supercruise.

Hello. My name is Commander Impossible. Pleased to meet you.

9 high CZ on foot are the influence equivalent to 1 low CZ in space
Current wisdom is that each high ground CZ is worth 0.4 of a low space CZ:

The BGS guide linked suggests 20 mins to turn over a high gCZ but my experience is these can be reliably turned over in 10-15 mins if necessary. I agree with the 8 mins to turn over a low space CZ.

Regardless, the conclusion is that they might still be imbalanced but the ratio isn't 9:1 but more like 3:1.

However, remember rule #1: make sure you're having fun playing and not turning it into a job.

A completely unengineered and unmodified maverick suit will absolutely suffice to do any mission or get any material. Granted, engineering does make it easier.

Regarding melee. If you note how embarrassingly primitive the NPC code is with existing weapons, we don’t need them to be any easier by letting them use stone knives and clubs. I can only imagine a hoard of Interpol troops running towards me into the meat grinder that awaits. There’s already a silent “kill from behind “ tool that every suit has. So I sincerely hope that melee weapons are never introduced.

lol hi my name is Commander NoLootLucky. Please to show me your ways? :ROFLMAO:

( i've already tried here--> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-odyssey-materials-exchange-thread.585279/post-10390625 ...as well as trying to farm them myself , but yeah RNG gods not blessing me 🤖 )
I don't actually do much mat stuff since I pretty much "finished" Ody engineering. If they ever release atmo worlds I'll need some new weapons but until then I pretty much just do grounds CZs. If you need anything just post in that thread and if I have the time I'll see if I can motivate myself to play more. The other issue is rl is kicking my playtime nowadays. I think I have mentioned that for some Ody mats you do have to do some grindy stuff that are exploity if you want to get them in a reasonable time frame which I believe you object to. You can get any mat without those methods, it's just going to take longer.

tbh can't imagine doing on foot stuff with much frequency. The ships are where this game shines and the CZs still had wild FPS drops the last time I was doing them. Engineering suits? I can do multiple ships in the same amount of time. No thanks!

My Maverick was the first suit I've finished, because it was bloody annoying to farm without extra backpack capacity and reduced tool battery use. Night vision was much needed too, and combat movement speed to be a little evasive against scavengers while aiming at them. Not to mention that G5 is a lot more sturdy in a fight.

Why does Sco (ludicrous speed drive) work when leaving some planet surfaces but not others? Icon for this perhaps as well. Sco mass lock?

I've tentatively concluded that this (anomalous SCO mass-lock) happens when the body you're taking off from is "sufficiently close" to a "sufficiently massive" other body - for example it's relatively common taking off from an inner moon of a large gas giant - though I admit there's a bit of work to be done tying down what is "sufficient" in my weaselly formulation.

Confirmations and counter-examples would definitely be of interest to me.
