Here's where I currently sit in the game, I've obtained a Python and kitted it out with nearly the best available modules that currently exist in game (after spending many hours searching for class 3 multi cannons or overcharged weapons finally settling on them simply not existing). I've done a ton of exploration, combat and obviously a lot of trading. I've done countless "anaconda" missions, warzone missions and bounties.
State of the mission system: I'm only going to address the "end game" mission involving the Anacondas. These are fairly challenging if you're in a viper, if you're in a python they get boring pretty quickly, made more so by how the missions currently all work the same. I.E. "go to system X to find out what system you actually have to go to". Basically it's like sending someone to the gas station for eggs to make sure that the gas station still doesn't sell eggs and then go to the market instead to get your eggs and repeating this because for some reason you can't remember that the gas station doesn't sell eggs....
Making players hunt for a target is all well and good but some variation would be nice, maybe that first system you go to turns out to be where your target is. Maybe your target finds you first and you get interdicted. Maybe you show up and just when that NPC ship is telling you how he just narrowly escaped BOOM your target warps in because it was chasing that guy oh and look this time he brought some friends and you have to fight off more than just a single anaconda.
The missions are easy and could be varied and scale up in difficulty and could have some variables added that would make them a lot more interesting and fun to do than just Go to point A so you can go to point B to kill your single target and collect your reward. Here's a diagram, cause everyone loves diagrams, showing the current state of missions and a couple examples of how they could be.
