State of macOS 2018

We Mac users want an official port of Planet Coaster in 2018 (no Bootcamp)!

I know this has been suggested numerous times in the past here, but things have improved a lot on the Mac side with the addition of GPU-accelerated 3D rendering engines like Metal built-in to macOS.

If EA can do it for The Sims 4, surely Frontier has a skilled enough team to do this.

I'd love to have the dev team chime in on this from a technical standpoint. Please don't bring up arguments against the Mac as a gaming platform. I know it is not and will never be centered around gaming. I get that. Windows computers are a much better value for gaming and have a much larger library of games. With that said, many Mac-owning casual gamers don't want to fork out $800+ for a beefy gaming PC just to play simulation games like Planet Coaster.

For example, The Sims 4 and Cities Skylines both run natively on macOS and it is glorious, no issues at all!

You can't play beefy games without a beefy computer! MacOS doesn't have a magic touch that allows things to work with lower-end hardware

The problem here is that, the engine would have to be completely rebuilt causing a secondary team to have to work on secondary issues that would arise with a (hypothetical) mac version, and subsequent patches would ultimately end up falling behind for mac users. Also, various compatibility issues would arise when dealing with cross-platform file sharing via the workshop. So, no. its a bit more complicated than you might think.

Surprisingly, the Sims is an extremely successful franchise and EA as a company far surpasses Frontier in size of wealth or profits (though not necessarily quality of games [wink]). I suppose we can thank Atari for being stupid and not knowing how to manage the RCT franchise better, otherwise maybe Frontier would have made RCT4 a long time ago and we would have an even more awesome RCT5 by now! lol nvm

FYI - I play in bootcamp on my late2016 MacBookPro (2.6Ghz quadcore radeon pro 460), and the Windows 10 v1803build is heads-and-shoulders above the past two Fall Creators updates for fixing FPS and other short stutters. was actually playable again. Update2 - microsoft updated something and now it's gone all stuttery FPS again (painting terrain is impossible)...
