station air traffic control

Hi I know this has been mentioned in threads before, but I think we need to raise it again so it doesn't get forgotten.

I have done any community goals, it's great to see and meet everyone at the stations. The only issue I see is the access to the slot.

I have a t9, this means nothing can co-exist in the slot while I pass through as the t9 is to large. Thee are queues and cmdrs all trying to go in and out of a very busy slot.

We have made great use of the local chat box to inform all who is leaving or entering, but this gets messy when 4 cmds all say they are leaving at the same time.

Can we have an air controller ?, yes we request docking but can we have a queue or a position in a holding list. when you are allowed in when its your turn you should have X seconds maybe 60 to go through the slot.

While somebody else trying to go through by entering the slot fencing the people who shouldnt be there should be fined a few thousand.

Maybe traffic control should only kick in when more than 5 ships are docking etc. We do get a message telling us to expect busy traffic, this message would be the trigger to start/activate air traffic control

I think this will help with the realism

Also I want vr, I have no chance using the text box method used to date while using the vr because I cannot see keyboard. an air traffic controller and queue would assist the vr experience.

What so you think is this a good idea

Maybe use the station blast doors to control when somebody should be going through the slot.

Yes there are blaster doors in the station slots already. I have seen videos with them working, I personally haven't seen them.

Did any of this get out in 2.4 ready for later. They mention changes to traffic control

It would be nice to see a queue of some sort being introduced. Very often when I'm docking / taking off, I hear the tower say something like: "make way for the bigger vessels". And then I think: "hold on a moment. I'm the biggest vessel here (Cutter). Why that Cobra is trying to squeeze in / out?". Few minutes ago I was taking off from a station. Solo mode, so all NPCs around. There was another cutter, which took off later. It scraped my paint to get to the slot first. Then there was Beluga, which was behind me and squeezed past me as well scraping my paint. At the same time I'm not allowed to ram them or open fire at them... Highly annoying.

But space rage aside, FD designed stations with a bottleneck for the sake of sentiment dating back to the original Elite. And sorry, but that wasn't a good idea, especially for Open mode. Because of that, there is a need for some sort of traffic control system.
 
I totally agree, I have experienced so many fines, and I was the larger vessel like you. I'm hoping the rework and the mention of the traffic control rework for the future is leading us up to this.

means you're flying your T9 wrong. :)
Stick to the green side, and anything up to Anaconda can easily co-exist in the slot with you, side by side. Another T9, Clipper, or the biggest three can't though. (That said, IIRC even two T9s can fit side by side, but that's quite tight)

I just stopped paying attention when in the cutter. Ain't nobody got time for that. Boost through the slot, whatever tries to squeeze past in any direction. All pips to systems if that's one of the big ones or T9 and all fines be damned.
 
When in a cg, there are so many cmdrs its needed.... many cmdrs start runs in and out and have to take emergency maneuvers to prevent a crash. Which is why its needed to assist in busy stations only.
 
Hi, is there anything like this in 2.4, I know they making changes in the background. I wonder if they a building up to this
