Newcomer / Intro Station behind planet!?

I was trying to head to a station called Dalton but it seems to be on the other side of the planet and I can't seem to get around it. How can I reach it?

What do you mean you can't get around the planet? If you are in hyper cruise there should be no problem getting around any planet. I sometimes can not get to a jump point as it is obscured by a planet and I can't go into cruise mode so I retarget the station I left, jump to cruise then re-target my jump point.

You can always go into SC it's just a matter of binding the keys in the Option setup menu... you can bind one for direct jump to another system and you can bind one for just SC and if I remember correctly there is also one whitch switch between normal flight to Hyperspacejump via SC first...
You don't need to be lock at a target to enter SC only hyperspacejumps require a target locked to engage....
I personatly use spacebar to activate SC and if locked on a target system and then pressed again it initiate a jump...
