Station Flight Controller lied to me..."Egress is clear"

Launch my T-8, "Egress is clear" says the flight controller.
Vertical thrusters, aligned with slot, landing gear up...BOOST.
Just as I scream through the correct side of the slot I notice a stationary sidewinder sat motionless inside the slot...which instantly got vapourised when my T-8 slammed into it at nearly 500m/s.
Station security didn't take kindly to this and next thing I know I'm dazed and confused staring at a rebuy screen.

No idea if it was an NPC or human Cmdr (sorry if it was you).
Moral of the story, don't believe a word the station flight controller says! GRRRRRRR!!!!

This is why I don’t boost out the slot unless I’m already mostly through. Especially when the corridor is proclaimed clear but I’m in the lumbering Cutter and another ship is passing through.

(Bonus points if it’s a T9 or Beluga, the latter of which I think NPCs should be forbidden from flying in… if it is just to make docking at Jaques’ in Colonia actually bearable.)

In the early days, I often didn't check the radar to see if there were incoming ships. After the introduction of the 100 m/s speed limit, bullying smaller NPC ships by ramming them aside in the docking slot at high speeds unfortunately carried penalties.

So very tempting in the T-8 because it drives like a Corvette, and I don't mean the spaceship or the type of naval vessel...

I am still waiting for an Audi heritage edition of one of these ships though, with suitable dump valve noises.

"Clear left... no... the OTHER left."

Just don't speed, or in the eternal words of Skyrim Oblivion: stop right there, criminal scum! :p

The real moral of the story is not to speed, especially in open. If you're going less than 100 then station control regards anyone who dies by crashing into you as a Darwin award recipient and unworthy of sympathy..

I’m glad I’ve always been in the habit of targeting ahead of me just before boosting. It’s always been a good source of engineering data, but with PowerPlay 2.0, it provides a small trickle of merits as well.

If the Station Flight Controller told me which day of the week it was, I'd ask someone else for a second opinion...
They’re probably just happy enough when a day passes without a Sidewinder getting turned into crumpled tin by a (speeding) Cutter more than twenty times the mass, on their shift. Or two T9s try to pass one another in the slot… (can they fit past each other? ignoring I’ve never flown one, I have no clue about the physical dimensions in terms of numbers)

This is a flagrant derelection of Flight Control's duty. I suspect they're just playing pre-recorded messages at random. This puts pilots at great risk, though thankfully I'm not at any greater risk as I already don't listen to the flight control and my Clipper can easily escape afterwards.

but if I did pay attention, I'd be very upset

Of course they are playing a recording, they are busy contacting their cousin, the pirates dispatcher, that another target is on the way out.

Don't speed??? ED ships are supposed to be flown like you stole them! :D
Don't victim blame me because, as Flimley hinted at, the controller was mashed!

I know that now! Maybe I killed one of their relatives in a HazRez.
You would have seen a rebuy screen much quicker had it been a T9 coming the other way.
Not with the shields and hull I have on my T-8...it would have cleaved the T-9 in half! :D

Oh god, the T9 builds I saw in open yesterday... shieldless no-hulls. Don't remind me of this, please :ROFLMAO:
:D
Tell me about it...that's because when someone on the forums asks for good builds 99% of the builds posted are only just viable for solo/PG...let alone open. Min max jump range and cargo space with not a second thought for armour and shields. Very few Cmdrs build ships for survivability, which inevitably results in "WAAAAAAAAAH! Some murder hobo giant clown shoe just killed me for no reason, never playing in open again!" :D
