As discovered by our lord and savior glynie 12/02

I'm going to be blunt. This is where ED humanity needs to expand.

I think plans to establish stations close to the FSD station's current position should be put on hold in favor of colonizing this gem of procedural generation.

Reasons for this?

The system is like a beacon to the surrounding systems. you can see it's cloud before you're even 5ly away. It's like a beacon telling us to come to it. this also means the interior view of the system is speckled red and green!

Here's where things get fun. the system has three earth-like worlds - and not only that, they're all in orbit around eachother.

The system is also far enough away from humanity to be a strong base of operations for future expansions without the FSD station

So, read through glynie's thread, this should be the root of the new world.

pand solar system has 8 earthlike worlds, and its already settled. that said the devs arent rushing to expand space at all. All the events are tightly controlled and it takes thousands of players a week to even build one new system. Its pathetic but well Frontier just dont have it in them to live up to the original DDA documents. So youre wishes although a extremely good idea, i agree 100% just isnt gunna get off the ground, not unless u can haul out 2 million tonnes of metals.

arguably this system is more unique, especially as the worlds are binary and in orbit around the third, not to mention the supernova remnant

10k trips of 13kly? hmmmm

The system glynie found would have been perfect for the dynamic simulation to recognise as a unique place to set up a long distance outpost. Once he/she had sold the data, missions for ferrying colonists and equipment out there would have automatically populated throughout the games' bulletin boards as factions desperately tried to stake a claim there. Tension and hostility would have increased, organic story arcs could have sprung up with trade routes out there beginning to get menaced by pirates (who could have had secret bases along it to operate out of). Proper Bounty hunting could have been born with players tasked to seek out and eliminate those secret hideouts (and not the silly predefined locations for bounty farming we have now), and player escorts could have been hired by traders - encouraging player co-operation.

A real worthwhile goal, community wide - all stemming from a lone explorers unique find.

That's how one player could have made his mark and blazed his own trail in Elite, as the adverting blurb states is possible.

That's what could have happened.

/rant :p

But seriously I agree with you. Its a different ball game now that we have an all seeing-all doing game master. We have no choice but to stick to their rigid script and get corralled down the grinding avenues they want us to go down.

I hope its temporary until they get the background sim working, or do a u-turn and even implement the thing if its not there yet, as I still believe that would add so much more longevity to the game for a lot of players.

i was hoping braben might show up and announce a gold rush :(

You mix something up, glynie found 2 systems. the hen systems contaibs the supernova remnant and the system NYEAJEE SY-Z D36 contains the earth-likes ;)

they're on top of eachother, i couldn't select NYEAJEE SY-Z D36 and HEN was shorter :p - they share the same coordinates or so - probably the closest two systems together recorded.

Why would anyone want to colonize this when there are Earthlikes just at the frontier?

new frontier

that's like asking if i'd want to invade portugal or colonize america

relatively, that's like saying "i'm going to colonize my back garden rather than cross the sea"

Because I don't own a boat.

We don't even know if a Ocellus Station is capable of going that far, or how long it would take one to get out there.
Let alone Human traders and their escorts as suggested about flying supplies out to the system.
The Beauty/magic of the system does not remove or mitigate the logistical concerns.

if not now then when?

will humanity be stuck in the same exact corner forever?

at some point this sort of extreme distance colonization and station creation has to happen.

Good Luck, fellas....i'll skip the 13.000ly haulage of building materials to that place, send me a postcard when it's done though. :D

Well all I am saying is rather that going straight to 13000 light years, there would be a call for explorers to locate suitable places for way points along the way, with Stations then built at those way points.
What every 500 or 1000 light years? What would be a reasonable range to have Cargo ships making the journey?
A series Oasis in the Dark cold desert

that's more like it. since we have 1000ly route planner now, every 1000ly.

mgiht be better off suggestions forum, the problem is the devs are still in beta 1.1. Rolling out properly thought out and properly programmed behind the scnes interaction content things to make such things like this happen in an automatic way takes time.
