Station Lighting: Flipped stations still sporting their old allegiance colors and decals

One of the most delightful aspects of flipping systems and stations is the station announcer changing when allegiances switch (Alliance, Empire, Federation, Independents), as well as the station colors and decals changing (most dramatically so with Coriolis stations).

Unfortunately, this doesn't always seem to go right. AEDC has repeatedly bug reported stations failing to switching their lighting, but to no effect at all, and not only do stations not see their lighting fixed, the problem continues. The latest Coriolis we acquired just this weekend, remains independent light-blue. The station announcer/traffic control changed and welcomes you to Alliance space. The lights did not.

So, I'd like to list in this thread those stations that are still sporting the colors of previous allegiances in the hope that we can get some attention on this problem and get this resolved. We BGS players get a lot of satisfaction from flipping systems and stations, and it is disheartening when the most visible aspect of the BGS doesn't function properly.

To keep the list easy to view, I'll update the OP as additions come in.

The following stations have incorrect allegiance lighting in the area controlled by LHS 2541 Alliance Combine:

  • Xiaoguan Plant, BD-01 2784; armed Coriolis. Still sports Federation red, rather than Alliance green
  • Dirichlet Freeport, LP 673-42; Coriolis. Independent light blue, rather than Alliance green
  • Rosenberg Dock, LP 734-11; Coriolis. Independent light blue, rather than Alliance green
  • Warren Prison Mine, Ross 128; Coriolis. Federation red, rather than Alliance green

Reported by Icarus Eames:

  • Brennan Depot, Arcturus; Federation red, rather than Alliance green
  • Fort Harrison, Arcturus; Federation red, rather than Alliance green
  • McArthur's Reach, LHS 5287; armed Coriolis. Independent white/light blue; rather than Alliance green

Reported by dunnykin:

  • Tudela Refinery, HIP 43886; armed Coriolis. Independent white/light blue, rather than Alliance green

Note, there may be two problems. Some coriolis stations don't change color, but in our group we are not aware of any armed Corioli that switched colors upon allegiance change, so perhaps their special shape makes them a special case.

This ticks me off (pun intended)

Fort Harrison, Arcturus - should be Alliance green with decals yet still Fed red with Fed decals

Brennan Depot, Arcturus - should be Alliance green with decals yet still Fed red with Fed decals

McArthur's Reach, LHS 5287 - should be lit up Alliance green yet still a indy white

this issue should be looked at ASAP as it's an underwhelming conclusion to working the BGS

This is something I'd wondered about. For instance, some Federation stations will sport the lettering "FSP #XXXX", obviously meaning Federal Starport and some sort of 4 digit hull number. If I were to flip it to an Alliance faction, would that lettering go away, etc? Obviously not.

The lettering, no. But the lights and decals should change, of course.

Edit: Turns out, I was wrong -- see Icarus's answer below

Actually the lettering should change. Depending on superpower. An Alliance station won't sport FSP which stands for Federal Star Port and some indy stations will say Rise Up or Never Surrender. Edit: if it doesn't it's most likely the bug we are talking about.

i bug reported this a while back for Tudela Refinery in HIP 43886, Armed coriolis still coloured as independent colours.

I figure its just laziness by the workers not being bothered to go out and change it.

Yeah this is one we've noted for ages. Something like Simpson Depot in Facece has always had a clear Imperial format (for a Coriolis, a lighter grey exterior with Bask in Her Glory and all that) even when controlled by an independent faction. Meanwhile others seemingly never take on those colours even after years of control by one of our allies' Imperial PMFs.
I assumed at first this was related to the caching issues we've seen over time with the galaxy map, for instance a certain system we observed as having both the wrong government and wrong allegiance listed for a full nine months after being flipped.
Pure conjecture though.

I'm fairly sure we've seen some changed and some not. I'll make a point of checking when I next visit the ex Empire and Federation systems as I make my rounds and see if we can deduce any pattern.

When it works - It truly is one of the the joys.

This recently declassified video from the AEDC archives makes the point. Although I admit it's a bit long on the pew pew "Don't bore us - get to the chorus" as they say.
So here's Wolf 433 in the Red Fed logo and Hank the Yank the Federation ATC guy at 2:38 telling you to "Mind your Ps and Qs you filthy Alliance hippy".
But then at the end it's all painted up in pretty Alliance green logos, and speaking of pretty - there's Melanie the Alliance ATC girl from the South London flight academy.

Worth getting right automagically for everyone.

Our very 1st flip... hang on I'll get the date - 9th April 2015 - it was one jump form Achenar. In the days of 28day cooldowns, booms preventing any other state and 75 or was it 70% for a coup....
I was in a CZ when the Cap Ship withdrew and instead of the hostile greeting of you are not welcome here, I was greeted by Welcome trusted Ally.... it was the biggest air punch ever in the game!

You guys get it :D

Honestly, coming home to a green friendly Coriolis and Melanie's voice is one of the best ways to express jurisdiction differences, which will be even more important with the new C&P changes. I may have run missions around mean red Fed stations, and the contrast when arriving in friendly territory is enormous, and says "safe".

To some degree, the incorrect display of alliegance by starports that have recently flipped reflects the messiness of galactic politics: there won't be crews of branding specialists standing by each time the controlling faction changes. I'd imagine that the database entries controlling the look and feel of the station are not directly linked to the controlling faction, and may need to be refreshed periodically, while still retaining any special customisation that have been applied by hand.

If a station is still showing its old colours after six months, then perhaps the workers in the station are being a bit lazy, and should be prompted to get a move on.

The inconsistency can also be blamed on the bugs in the past where Stations were taken over between the 3rd and 4th day of a Civil War / War. Not to mention that manual interaction by FD itself also can leave certain things desired at times.
