Station Services

Why not allow Commanders to access and view (read only if you will) the Station Services once they are within docking range.

This could allow us to view market prices, Galnet bulletins, Outfitting options without actually having to dock. Obviously, if you wanted to actually buy/sell something or carry out any upgrades - docking would then be required.

You could even allow buying/selling from a certain range story-wise by "cargo drones", though I would say the range for that should be a lot closer.

I can see where you are going with this idea but I can only partially agree. The market prices, news and other things that are just 'data' (that face it in the 34th Century would be transmitted as it would be today) I think might work in the model but anything physical and I include buying cargo should still require you to actually dock/land at a space port.

Oh, I don't think physical transfers are necessary. But they might help ease up on "traffic" complaints. Even that could be constrained by virtual "docks"; by which I mean designated areas of space outside but very near the station that would allow for such activity (no outfitting though). Think "drive in" restaurants or theaters.

and view missions/get paid for mission that dont require physical goods transfer. eg. get paid for doing bounties, read missions and accept that ask for certain goods but to deliver you have to dock. etc.

pay fines

view outfittings available.

then the game needs a actual stockmarket system, invest in companies and stations. wars etc affect companies etc.
