I thought I'd get involved in evacuation. Found a system under attack with a nearby rescue ship, flew out in a properly outfitted ship, landed at the port--and there are no missions available. Neither under the passenger lounge nor the mission board. Am I doing something wrong? Does this mean the station is arlready evacuated?

Missions stop being generated when the system's war progress reaches 100% completion and since there are rarely any systems under invasion (this week there was a single one) they are typically cleared very soon after the weekly server downtime.
Is there a way to know before jumping all the way to the system?
Galmap right hand column Thargoids war progress. The bar will tell you if the system has been cleared or not.

If your looking for a decent one try Darwin Legacy in DAISLA, needs medium ship (im using a Python), take passengers to Rescue ship Bertschinger in HARITANIS.
Its a 442LY ish round trip making about 45mill credits based on 100 evacuees.
