My suggestion is adding the option to download data (eg commodities, available modules, available ships, Galnet etc) from a station wirelessly, without docking ie you fly within range of the station then you press a button like 'request data' other than request docking. This would give you an overview of what the station has to offer and if you are not interested or the station doesnt have what you are looking for then you just boost off to another station. If you are interested however, you need to dock at the station for any transactions. You could also make this feature only available to factions you are 'friendly' or 'allied' with so as not to make the game 'too easy' for some.
I think this would help reduce the amount of times you dock eg when looking for certain modules, checking station prices for making trade routes etc and so make docking less monotonous as you dont need to dock to do every little thing at a station. This would also reduce traffic in a station and so landing pads would be free more for players in open play. This wouldnt make the game significantly easier as you still need to get in range of the stations to get data, so hopefully it wont annoy those die hard gamers who want a 'realistic experience.
Maybe you could also have an archive where all the downloaded data is stored, but not updated eg if you download data from a station then dont visit the station for 10 days, there would be an age on the data saying '10 days old or something', but it would still be useful to get an overview of whats available at the station even if the data is old.
It would be useful for trading but it would be different from things such as Slopeys or Thrudds as you actually need to collect the data and interpret it yourself, instead of getting data for places you havent visited, so hopefully people dont think it is cheating.
I know some people use pen and paper for this kind of thing but its 3301 for godsake! its 2015 and i can see my internet history, 1300 years later and I cant see station history/data?
An automatic history log of travelled systems would also be good.
Thats all for now, hope to get some feedback on what you guys think about this.
