PvP Stealth Clipper

Is it still a thing? Any suggestions for a stealth build for pirating cmdr and with a decent chance to do some PvP. Top speed / SR as an insurance to get out in case the fight turns sour.

Appreciate any ideas.

Thanks.

Ship may have speed on its side but not great armour, even when tanked out. It's also a large ship to hit so even silent running, you're not safe. Just one touch of Emissive and your day is ruined.
At this stage of the game, if it's not in PvP, it's not in PvP for a reason. Everyone has tried every loadout in every combination and what you see today is the pinnacle of meta PvP. You'll probably see something like a SR clipper for goofing around but not for serious wing battles.

That's my 2p.

Ok, let me paraphrase: what would be a recommendation for a pvp pirate build? I would though the combination of cargo and speed makes the clipper great for this role. The questions is if the stealth build (hull tank also) is an advantage. Fully understanding that fighting it out with a focused pvp FDL probably wouldn’t work...

The Clipper should be fine as long as you are ok with running gimbals on at least one of the pods.

You should be able to have cargo, limpets, and interdictor and still get about 2000 hull and 3500 average resistance.

A build like that will do close to 600, permanent boost.

Never tried it, but it looks like a fine pirate ship.

Ok. Tested couple of builds in beta. Good news: can outrun most of the ships and survive long enough against PvP / gankers, even in a wing. Offensive firepower (2xC3 beams , 2xC2 packs) to wins one some set-ups or makes someones life very nasty, e.g. running trader scenario. QoL considerations: collisions and engagement require a return to a station to repair. This would limit the amount of traders one could pirate in a row... SR helps, but the upside doesn't seem to be huge due to auto-resolve. So maybe a bi-wave combo with a combination of high resist booster is an alternative. Would also help in terms of ramming attacks which are, and yes we all know it, the funniest part in driving a clipper...

Overall decent ship, Just gets outgunned by a FAS or FDL. Large target so it's easy to snipe modules with SP railguns. Drawback is gimballed guns.

Try a FAS man. You won't regret it.

Beams are kinda useless in PVP unless they are fixed

FAS would make an OK small pirate, but for the utility you might as well go with an Asp... i.e. More cargo with the same potential for utility.

You don't need an ultra fast ship for most hauling targets. T-6s, T-7s, T-9s, are going to be overtaken by just about anything with A drives.

Can you please elaborate on beams?

Sure! Due to the high power/ High Capacitor Usage, Beams are usually pointless in PVP scenarios. They may be viable in piracy but in a straight fight, they will be a hindrance.

My advice for piracy would be getting some pulses with scramble and or Frags with drag.

Dumbfire Missiles with FSD reboot feature to lock em in the instance (Most will log on you)

And/or Overcharged multicannons to tear the shields down.

All of these, yeah. What I've done with both my Python and Asp is load them up with as many effects as possible.

The FSD reboot is a must-have, drags are should have. Everything else is a nice to have and I go with a wide range of effects - I want their cockpit to light up like a Christmas tree when I hit them. The more visual and aural alerts, the better; gaining heat, targeting malfunction, sensor malfunction, corrosion... the idea being to cause as much panic and confusion as I can all in one quick violent action.

Remember, you're shooting at traders, not 6000Mj combat cutters. For most traders their shields are going to go down quickly anyways, so you don't need a meta build.

Honestly, I've found that if you present yourself as a proper pirate, most will not log on you. Just make sure you send them a hail and let them know you're just out for the cargo. A macro or staged message works well for that. Some run, some fight back, some are happy to give you cargo just for the opportunity to engage in some nice roleplay.

VOICE ATTACK! It works wonders!

Orion! Send the Pirate message to the Target!

Affirmative, Sending now Sir.

Running efficient beams actually allows me to do a boom & zoom high speed pass with a consistent damage output through the <1500m range on target with FA off flip on the way out. With some thrusts inputs one can manage to avoid most of the fixed weapons shoots (despite clipper being a huge target). In a trader scenario it does allow to bring the shields down rather quickly. With a hull tank build I can have 2 pips in weapons all the time. Downside is clearly a lack of good special effects so ships with more hardpoints win out as you can combine many effects, but I can't bring myself to drive a python. Currently running thermal vent to cool down before a pack hounds salvo with drags.

Bit OT but, what happened to all the Frag-Ram Clippers that every Tom, and Harry used to run in PvP, a while back?

"Mainstream PVPers thew the clipper out due to the gimballed hardpoints being too much of a hindrance.

Stealth clipper for piracy is not a good idea, reasons:

- DD5 x heat issues
- U gonna loose one of the most importat things in a clipper: 7C bi wave with fast recharge
- Its a big ship and u can be hitted any time
- you need to sacrifice hull for cargo hack & utilities (thats not a good idea for a setalth / hull tank ship)
