Newcomer / Intro Stealth question

You were interdicted once maybe and they kept following. Npc pirates I guess. With my understanding of how heat and stealth works, can you just shut everything off, hide maybe and they'll lose interest after looking for a while? Is that a valid tactic lose pursuers?

No the power pack cannot be shut down and life support can only be shut down for a few minutes the exact value depending on the grade and how much you have used it.

Going into silent running with almost everything powered off will let you last longer before overheating, but probably not long enough.

If somebody gets close enough they will detect you.

The only place I know where you can hide for a long time is in the middle of a freshly exploded ice core, which isn’t all that useful.

Trick I used to use when I had a more vulnerable combat or trade ship is;

1 - Submit to the interdiction
2 - Thruster boost away
3 - Turn on silent running / heat sink if necessary to keep from cooking yourself
4 - FSD soon as you get the option to

hope it helps some! o7

If an NPC is after you repeatedly (for example because of a mission) the only way to shake them off for good (at least until the next jump - they may find you again in the next system, or the next station) is to win the interdiction.

To go silent running and escape to supercruise is a bad idea because if they interdict you again, you don't have your shields back up and your thrusters and FSD is now vulnerable and you might not be able to disengage in time.

By and large, silent running in combat is only worth it when your shields are already down and you need to break the target lock. If turning on silent running means you lose your shields, you're basically just limiting your own tactical options.
And of course SR is fun for smuggling.
But it is under no circumstances some sort of magical invisibility button and is almost always worse than the alternative.

how do you do this? SR into station? I am soon to unlock the Dweller and want to know how to sell the 5 commodities to 5 black markets.
Yes, basically. It's completely unnecessary, of course as simply boosting into the station before anybody is able to scan you is both quicker and more reliable, but sneaking in with SR on, keeping eye on contacts and avoiding any cop that would stumble too close is way more satisfying.

I wish they wouldn't have nerfed silent running into oblivion. It was SOOO much fun in the betas where it really actually worked.

I always use outpost's black markets for this - not normally any chance of being scanned.

(Habit I developed from back in the day when you would get a navy mission asking for illegal goods so doing that at an outpost was safe.)

You still have to pay attention to "hostile ships may be sent against you" message. Because AFAIK their scan counts, too and they will follow you to your destination outpost. IMO it's actually much easier and way faster to scurry away into the station interior (where they won't scan you) than circling the outpost trying to find the right pad, landing on it and praying the elevator is fast enough.
