Steam Account Link Issue?

I have been playing Elite through Steam for a number of years without issue, but twice in the last 2 weeks I tried to start the game through steam as usual and it asks me to log in and if I want to link my account to steam. is anyone else getting this issue? Once Iv'e done that all seems fine, until it happened again, is this going to continue?
 
This has been an ongoing issue for years. It's apparently happening on Steam's end, so Frontier can't do much about it.

You are lucky that it worked when you took that action. My Steam account required support to go in and manually intervene - the account was linked, showed as being linked and even the support person saw it was linked but the launcher still wouldn't play nice (it had worked perfectly before then). I'll give them their due, the new support "live chat" applet on the website gave me immediate access to a support person and the situation was rectified within a couple of hours (the live-chat support person had to take more action than in real-time). Frontier support are simply brilliant, shame the rest of the ED side of FDEV is more troublesome.

I still have the issue, every couple of weeks it seems, but closing steam down and re-opening it seems to fix it for me. But again this is an issue that has only just reared it's head.
