steam and elite dangerous

i have a a htc vive on order..and was wondering if my copy of elite needs to be registered on steam to make it work on vr as i have 2 copys of elite...mine which i start from frontier launcher and my sons which is on steam on the same pc

With the Rift CV1 I load up my standard launcher and select the VR headset options from the graphics menu. I didn't want to reinstall everything for Steam or Oculus home and it works great.

I'm assuming the same should be possible with Vive?

excellent... thank you..i assume the game picks the device up once its plugged in to give you the option in the menu...i thought this may be the case but was bothering me none the less

Certainly for the rift the options are available under Graphics->3D when the device is plugged in.

If you haven't used a headset before it's a good idea to check what your 'reset orientation' button is bound to. Otherwise you might have to spin around a bit looking for the floating menu.
