Steam Confusion about which game to run...

I've purchased Horizons on Steam. I now have two Elite games in my library.

Elite Dangerous - had a 6.1GB update yesterday and it's 13.7GB total size
Elite Dangerous: Horizons - 6.5GB total size

I'm confused about why I have two games, and which do I run to have access to the new update? Is it not possible for this to simply update the existing Elite Dangerous installation like DLC? Or perhaps that's what's happened?

I'd basically like to be able to continue playing Elite Dangerous but with Horizons because that has my total playtime and screenshots, etc.

If you purchased Horizons you should be running the Elite Dangerous: Horizons game. If I understand it correctly (Which is a big IF) Horizons uses a separate launcher which is why it wasn't just listed as DLC for Elite: Dangerous. I am not sure if you can just delete the original Elite: Dangerous and run Horizons exclusively or not. Maybe someone else here on the forums can shed some light on that. As for being able to continue using your Elite Dangerous game to keep your playtime and screenshots, I don't think it is possible to combine the 2 since they are considered separate games due to the separate launcher. However if I am wrong hopefully someone will correct me. =)

Under the Forntier version, there is one, new 'Blue colored' Launcher.

Here is what it looks like:

You have to choose the Horizons version to get planetary landings...NOT Elite 64 bit.

The doubling of the one directory is probably because either both versions of the original are in it...OR both versions of the 64 bit are in it!

Your save will be available in any version you play..with all your time, cash, ships etc. regardless of where you play or add to it....(the old part of the game got the ships update so those work too!)

Thanks for the info folks

The Steam version has split the launchers for each game but it's the same concept. I'll just run Horizons from now on as you suggested.
