Steam Deck Noob

I’ve copied my console account to pc. My steam deck arrived today. I’m a complete noob. I have no clue how to get Odyssey installed. I’m sure I’ll work it out. But first… How do I claim the free Horizons?

I can help you with Steam Deck. If you have Elite on Steam, then it's no issue at all, you just install it from the main UI, as any other game. If you're coming from console, then you'll be right at home with the controls.

If it's any other platform (including stand-alone account from FDEV store), on the high level you need to do the following:

1. Log in to desktop mode.
2. Download the launcher (Epic Games or stand alone Elite from FDEV).
3. Install the launcher (Epic or Elite).
4. Add the launcher to Steam games as a non-steam game.

It will then appear in your main Steam Deck UI as a non-Steam game. I suggest lowering the refresh rate to 40 Hz and capping FPS at 40 too. Elite is a massive battery drainer (no surprise really, it's a big game) and setting those limits does not really take away from the experience, but prolongs the battery life rather nicely. I can squeeze about 3 hours.

It looks great too, obvs won't do everything on Ultra, but a nice mixture of Medium/High setting make it looks amazing at that resolution, considering it's a handheld device.

Works like a charm too, no issues whatsoever! (I use the standalone FDEV store version).

Thanks so much for your help! I’m currently stumbling though your steps. I had to Google how to start desk top mode 😆

Follow this guide, just replace GOG Galaxy client with your Elite/Epic Launcher client and follow the same exact steps. Much easier if you have a mouse and keyboard. I managed to do it with the build it one, but it's a MASSIVE pain :D

In fact this is a guide about Epic client :)

Thanks again Rootsrat. Awesome help. After getting stuck I checked about the unsupported ED on stream. Everyone I asked said it worked perfectly. So when I sort out the new ‘purchases stuck on working’ problem, I’m going to try just buying it on steam. The Deck is a great bit of kit, but it’s reminding me of all the reasons I moved away from PCs all those years ago 😆

Oh yeah, it's definitely a device to tinker with and while Steam is pretty much plug-and-play, everything else requires a bit of effort. I personally love stuff like that, so it's perfect for me.

I just got it hooked up to my TV via Steam Link app :D

I just got a new Steam Deck but did anyone here have issues logging in to their Frontier Store account using desktop mode and Google Chrome? I've tested the exact same credentials on my PC browser which logs in fine, but on the Steam Deck it just refreshes the login page every time :(
