Hi i just noticed that if your a Steam user & open a web browser via the Elite Launcher i.e. account, store, support links along the top / Galnet news report
Steam thinks that the browser is part of Elite & gets stuck saying Elite dangerous is RUNNING even after quitting out of Elite correctly

With Steam thinking that Elite is still running it wont let you restart the game till you exit the Web Browser

If the Web browser is already open the Launcher just opens a new TAB without steam bugging out thinking the browsers part of elite

Close the tab(s) before you exit the game and/or close the Elite launcher?

What you describe is how I have made every single store purchase, read every Gal-Net article, and I don't have the problem of Steam not closing out the game after I have closed the Elite launcher. It takes a few seconds, but the Running message disappears.

I don't think Valve can do anything about it. The way Steam knows you are in a game is by determining whether a process it has launched or one of its child processes is running. This is how Steam can deal with game launchers, that spawn other processes.
If your browser is already open, then depending on your browser there is no new child process (which is your case, apparently).

er well if it REALLY bothers you... find the elite launcher in the game folder and just run that. make a shortcut to it on desktop. you dont NEED to run the steam version from steam. but while playing it direct from the Frontier launcher steam wont know its running because it did not run its little menu box to run the said frontier launcher - so it cant track your play hours.

my steam version shows 996 hours played. i would click play and run the launcher from steam and leave it to get to 1000 but... i cant resist clicking play and doing something in space lol. and i need to finish the dusting today.
