steam migration questions

Already activated my ED steam key, I want to know :

1. Do I need to uninstall the stand alone version first?
2. How to make sure my settings, keybindings and save game progress carried over to the steam version???

1. I don't think it matters. The Steam install will be under the Steam games directory.
2.) Mine all did automatically. Settings etc are local, save is on the server.

I had a previous install on my C: drive (SSD) and the Steam install went onto my HDD by default. Both work, and pick up the settings.

Does anyone know whether the local keybindings file is deleted along with the rest of the standalone game when it's uninstalled, or which file the bindings are stored in so that it could be backed up either way?

I should point out that if you do migrate your account all future purchases you make for Elite will result in 30% or so of the profits from that going to Valve. If you intend to buy in game digital items to support Frontier you should stick with the Frontier game interface/launcher.
