I own this on PS4, but I'm tempted to get it on PC. With mods I think this game could scratch my exploration itch.
I have been thinking about this too. Mods would allow space to be black, the planets to be spaced out a lot more, less bloody asteroids everywhere you fly, etc...

I love the planet tech of NMS and also the base building, freighter ship interiors, exploration, caves, very very large diversity of plants and animals, etc... but I hate the pastel coloured space and bunched up planets.

With ED, I love the vastness of space, the 1 to 1 representation of the galaxy, the BSG, exploration (to some extent), but I don't like the new Odyssey planet tech, lack of base building, lack of ship interiors, no caves, very few plants, etc...

If ED and NMS had a baby, I'd gladly pay £100+ for a game like that. It would certainly be cheaper than buying a new pc just to play and mod NMS.

For all those thinking about abandoning Elite Dangerous, please wait till the end of the month. If nothing is improved fine but at least give them a chance.
Some of us came back for Odyssey after being away for a while...found out all the things we were cautiously looking forward to that FDev could have done with space legs...they didn't. They chose to add a first person shooter element instead.

EVA, ship interiors...the list goes on. I still like and play EDO for what it is...but it could have been so much more :)

Got to love a bit of misplaced optimism, it took them a year to come up with fleet carriers, Odyssey was at least 6 months late after having been 'on schedule' right up to a week or two before it was due and it's still in an alpha state, and you think they'll fix it before the end of the month? think they've had plenty of chances to be fair.

I think you missing a lot of gameplay if you think it's only pew pew, well most of it is pew pew but exploration wise the galaxy just got a lot bigger because we are much smaller ;)

To be honest game development is always hard and takes time but they have a team. they can do it.

Many people have been saying the same for years and they haven't managed it yet.
I guess Elite Dangerous is really peronal, been trying to get my friend hooked to it but he won't bite. I personaly like Elite Dangerous and that's most important to me but I'm sorry if you have issues. But I beg you to please not try to destroy something I and many others love!

I mean defend Elite in DD if you must but this space is for other stuff. People can play more than one space game.

Hi, mate I was "giving em a chance" for the past 5 years. They are huge game studio and still small indie team despite horrid start outrun em by a mile so... nah I will just stick to NMS. That does not mean I want ED to fail, I will just play other stuff. ;)
On topic - if you guys still on the fence with NMS - get it on this sale, its worth the full price imo.

NMS is definitely worth the money, especially on sale. The planetside exploration is unmatched at the moment. The only thing that still mars the experience for me is, ironically, the "sky" portion of NMS. Right now, each solar system is little more than a procedurally generated dungeon in a roguelike. That is to say, because there are no real orbital mechanics, each system is just a randomly generated clump of planets with a single space station that acts as a general store for the system. This makes outer space seem one-dimensional. If Hello Games would provide a real structure to each system, one with at least some semblance of orbital mechanics, space would become vastly more interesting and realistic to explore, and would serve to balance the space and planetside gameplay (right now the scales are definitely tipped to planetside gameplay).

Still, it can be a pretty game that keeps you exploring.

Yeah me too. You would think by now that the dev team would have made space more realistic, especially as console players can't mod games.

I'm sure there are plenty of other players who want space to be black.
