Steam Sales - No Man's Sky 50% off!

As an '84'r and ED beta buyer I have 1000's of hours logged in ED. However even though the flying, combat and exploration is/was very good the game lacks a soul. The storylines in GalNet mean little to me, the BGS is borked and the PP is so broken as to actively drive players away. Once I had obtained all the ships I wanted, had explored and found new stuff and made billions, I got bored. I had hoped EDO would save the game (couldn't care less about legs in ED, or ship interiors - fluff) but no, that hasn't happened and I doubt it ever will happen.

A while back I bought NMS on sale, its a great game and worth buying at discount. The gameplay is good, the story lines are interesting and planets are fun. However after achieving what I wanted to do, I lost interest. The 2 recent Exped modes did get me back into the game but I find it hard to just "play" with no objectives.

2 different games, same outcome.... If only ED had that element introduced by Drew W a few years ago, open play interaction with difficult objectives. Not always but maybe a couple of times a year. It would be enough to keep my interest. Chasing Thargoids that invade on a Thursday morning? Nah.

I am at that stage now too.
I'm doing some BGS stuff but that's all.

I tried the Guardian thing but the grind was a killer, even for me, plus I am not into killing Thargoids either so I didn't really want the Guardian tech.
I recently visited an active Thargoid base. It was ok and fun to drive through, but a bit meh also.

I haven't touched PP because it's borked plus the politics of space doesn't interest me.

Galnet news is just padding with no real content.

CG's don't do anything for me. I did do one just to get the Sol permit (because I don't do the Fed grind). But once I had seen Earth and other things, it was also meh.... now what?

I've enjoyed exploration and done the usual Colonia, Sag A, etc... trips, but once you have seen one airless planet or moon, you have seen them all. There wasn't even anything new to find on those planets, no new vulcanism or bio signs has been added for years (Odyssey aside).

Eventually consoles will have FPS and station interiors. Well from what I have seen, it's just the same sort of missions but on foot, and most station interiors are all the same. There is no variety. Once you have walked around one, they also become very meh.

I am really starting to lose interest in ED which is a shame. The thing is though, I don't really know what new content would interest me.
I suppose having some very weird and unusual stuff to find out in the black might make me want to go looking for it. It wouldn't be hard for Fdev to hand craft a few hundred objects and then place them in the 99% of unexplored systems that we have.

Missions could do with an overhaul. We already have 'linked mission' so the concept is already in game. A few missions that develop over time would be nice. Maybe the outcome changes depending on the choices you make. Some long complex missions would be great, where it could take you to the edge of the bubble or the edge of the galaxy.

ED just needs a bit more soul.

NMS is a fantastic game IMO, but... it's not really a space game.

'Space' in NMS is just the loading screen between different areas of gameplay - i.e. planets, stations, abandoned wrecks, etc. If you understand that and are OK with it, it's unparalleled IMO.

If you go in thinking it's going to be like Elite, or any other true 'space' game, you'll be disappointed. 🤷‍♀️

I bought mine on sale almost two years ago, and it's been a good investment.

The flying is maddening for me, but the game itself is quite entertaining. Additionally, there are multiple player slots, which allows me a lot of flexibility in playstyle.

The graphics actually are not too bad- although I am a Chuck Jones cartoon fan. :)

You can do a lot with this game. It's best approached as a game, not a semi-sim environment like Elite. You can play on various difficulty levels, including perma-death. The Sentinels are a real pain, if you want a threatening AI environment. There's hostile life, as well. Or, you can choose the creative mode, and just enjoy running around locally in-system.

There is also a true multi-player mode, that is completely cross platform.

I am definitely going to get NMS again for PS4.
My local CEX store has the base game for about £10.
It will mean that I will have a crap load of updates to download.

Just one, usually. When you update the game, it just updates to the latest version (currently Prisms). They're not cumulative.
