Steam/smoke coming up at 70% heat, too early

I was flying around for the first time after 1.2 and smoke started coming up from my dashboard at 70%, which seemed way early.
I think this is due to the heat damage rules being changed in 1.2 (where instead of 150%, 100% is now the point where damage occurs).
Still 70% is a full 30 percentage points before that happens and the smoke obscures some things in the cockpit. I don't think smoke should start until 90%. It seems odd that smoke should preceed damage by 30 percentage points. It should be smoke at 90%, a verbal warning at 95% and then extra warning and damage at 101%.
 
Oh that's annoying. I kinda like having that extra buffer. Any link to the relevant changelog or description of the change? My impression was that you always took damage over 100%, because your cooling system is overburdened. You are correct on the smoke, it should not appear briefly at 70%, then disappear. It should be an active feedback that damage to the hull and modules of the ship is ongoing.
 
It seems bugged a bit at the moment. The bar graph doesn't match the percentage shown either. 70% is too low, I'd prefer going back to 100% before any visual indication of being warned of a heat issue. I'd also like to see the max. temp before damage factored based on the ratings of your load-out. Maybe up to a 1-5% increase as you improve from E/F to A ratings. Shields and hull reinforcements should also help in this area. The current state at 70% is an immersion killer imho. I played a lot this past weekend and thought about this quite a bit.
