Steam users blocked?

Just to be clear. I cannot open any version of Elite Dangerous. Horizons, Odyssey, any of them. The launcher opens with an error screen preventing access to anything, everything on the launcher including the links to this forum are blocked. The error says to change the update priority in the Steam software to "High Priority" which I did yesterday, and which has accomplished zero, nothing, zilch, squat.... Actually I was so disappointed that the final Odyssey release played just as poorly in VR as the alpha did (FPS so slow its basically unplayable, and yes I am aware there were no promises made it would work with VR, but I was hoping none the less) that I had not even attempted to log on and play since Thursday. So I came back to play Horizons this weekend and SURPRISE! Odyssey has wrecked he whole damn game. Oh wait, I know, it was the Thargoids, or the NMLA has hacked in a virus! OMG!! Or maybe it's the level of competence that forms a sentence like this one "UPDATE REQUIRED. The game requires an update before you can run it. You can manually check for updates by following these steps" So your telling me the game requires an update, and giving me instructions to then "check for updates". In fact I can see the Update button under the error screen on the launcher ready to update Odyssey, but as soon as the error screen is closed with (X) or the (close) prompt the launcher goes away and I CAN'T perform an update. It's as if FDev is knowingly blocking Steam users until they are "ready" to let us play again. Sucks to be a Steam user right now, but better than being a programmer at FDev right now. To have this level of bug after so many of us worked through the alpha and were expecting so much more. I feel for ya. Now fix it please.

Seems like more of a Steam or Internet provider problem than a Frontier one, as you get your updates from Steam. I did as well and it updated really fast actually, maybe your Internet provider limited you due to excessive downloads or something?

Tried this?

Support Luna said:

Run EDLaunch.exe direct from your Steam game folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous

That should allow the launcher to update. We know about this and are hoping to remedy with a launcher change. Apologies.
TY but this isn't working either. The launcher opens from the folder, (YAY!) but then prompts me to log into frontier which I begin, and they E-mail me an Authenticate code, that I receive and input, to which I receive yet another error code that I must purchase ED or "LOG IN" and then the process repeats in perpetual loop. Is "Support Luna" from Frontier or Steam? Nevermind I just discovered that "Support Luna" is a hyperlink to a Frontier admin.

Yeah, you can't launch the client without Steam if that's where you bought it. Very confusing actually, kinda wish I didn't use Steam for the purchase personally, I usually don't as it generally just creates more issues.

Might want to remove your e-mail address from your picture you posted, or that particular screen altogether ;)

I would make sure that this is the same login information that you have either linked with Steam to Frontier, or try some different account information that's linked to Frontier. Can you log into Frontier's site with the same credentials and check to make sure it's the same as your Steam account? Acts like you are either using another account or it's not linked to Steam.
TY. The problem is known to be a Frontier Launcher issue affecting certain accounts. Mine is one of them. (Steam non-key copy). This is a post from Support Luna on another issue thread.
"It unfortunately won't work for Epic as you have to go through EOS to authenticate. Steam non-key copies will run into a similar issue when launching outside of Steam. It works for anyone with their ED license on their Frontier account though (via key redemption or purchase from the Frontier store). For everyone else, again, I apologise. We're aware and should have a fix out ASAP. There's an inelegant workaround for now, which is to to try to hit 'enter' as the launcher is loading, and get in before the 'update' popup appears. I know, it's not ideal. But some people have been able to get updated this way."
Frontier Customer Support Team

TY all for your help and comments. At this point it appears my account is one of the lucky ones affected by a launcher bug. (Damn Thargoids...) The temporary fix to start the launcher directly from the local file generates a new issue where Steam non-key copies can't run outside of Steam, that is (launched from the local file.) And yes I have verified and am certain I input the correct frontier password. And yes I have tried hitting the enter key before the error screen and that has not worked either.
My Frontier account is linked to Steam, and I bought the Odyssey pre-purchase bundle directly from the Frontier US website and never had to do anything else. I actually looked for a product key of some sort and was worried for some time I'd really messed up not by buying through steam, but when the Alpha released it was right there ready to download. And each alpha phase did so without any issue. Then the full release came out last week and right out the gate the "Button" to download Odyssey was greyed out and I got to watch as all my squad mates in TCON chatted in Discord about what they were doing in Odyssey while I was scrambling to cure my download bug. Now here I am again except now I can't even play Horizons. So it would appear I did mess up by buying from the US Frontier website vs through Steam. I appear to be in a group of unfortunate customers that will be having issues with Odyssey upgrades. I never thought I'd say this but if the few hours I've played the full release Odyssey are summed with the 2 days I've lost access to ALL of Elite Dangerous, maybe I'm elegable for a refund. Positive 3hrs and negative 48hrs equals negative 45 hours. Just say'n. If others see this and are having similar issues the devs at Frontier say they are working on a fix. So there's that............

UPDATE;
GALNET NEWS FLASH!
While the Thargoids attempt to rid the Galaxy of all humanoid presence by infesting the Odyssey release with numerous "bugs" the most recent being the dreaded "launcher bug", one CMDR, Enegue NoDrellim has successfully thwarted one of these attempts utilizing the infamous "push enter as launcher is loading" technique. While admittedly a shot in the dark requiring untold luck and little timing or skill, and the fact he had tried quite a few times already, CMDR Enegue (e-neg-way) stated "I closed my eyes, tapped my mag boots together three times" and chanted "there's no place like SOL, there's no place like SOL, and smashed that enter key". Remarkably hitting perfectly within the necessary window and to his own astonishment observed as the file sync began! CMDR Enegue also stated he wanted to again thank his fellow CMDR's who came to his aid in the face of this battle and Godspeed to those at FDev faced with the lionshare of this mammoth undertaking. 07!
