Steam Voice Attack compatibility with non-Steam game

Hoping for the Voice pack story mission I need to get Voice Attack. Is there a problem with running a Steam version with non-Steam Elite? Have there been any problems with either of the versions?

While I'm at it, which pack would you recommend? I would prefer a non-movie star pack as with a known voice you always see that person while a unknown voice lets your imagination run wild. :x

I have the non-steam voice pack and non-steam game; I've had no problems.

I bought the "Obsidian" pack, which features Obsidian Ant. Since I watch his videos, his voice fits in with the rest of the game. Other good choices include: Verity, the woman who recorded the ED ship computer voice and ASTRA, which is synthesized, but has the most commands and responses (and can be used with the Personal Responses voice pack add-on).

Unlikely to cause any issues whatsoever, software is software, the delivery method should make little difference. You probably will not even have to run steam to run VA, unless they are using Steam as DRM. (I downloaded ShareX via steam and that autostarts with windows w/o steam running).

I don't know any Steam-bought product that would not demand Steam running. I was thinking about buying VA through Steam to keep as many game-related contents grouped, but why not just buy VA from the site... I'll probably do that.

Oh, how much of a problem is children in the background? Cause I've got that... a lot. Will VA be able to recognize my commands if I do the initial voice recognition in peace?

As for the latest patchnotes for the "Steam Version" of VA, it runs independent from Steam

For Steam users, VoiceAttack will now isolate itself from the Steam environment after installation and launch, so no more, 'in app' woes, plus, you will be able to launch VoiceAttack without Steam running.

Edit - P.S.: I guess, I'll have to try VA asap, too. Btw, any non native speakers using the english version of the HCS Voicepacks and how does it work ? Or should I better get the gerrrrmann Version of ASTRA or AURORA ?

You'd need to run the english language version of windows as it uses built in voice recognition engine and your pronunciation needs the be accurate enough to at least resemble english but if you got all that it should work.

Background noises in general can give some amusing results, children could be...interesting. You might want to use a push to talk button and perhaps not use it for critical ship functions.

Ah Ok, thanks for the info. Hmm... Pronounciation shouldn't be that problem... [where is it] At least I hope that, even though I'm not used to speaking english that much any more... But my Windows 10 is the german version, don't know if it supports the english voice recognition though. Would be a pity because I'm running E: D (and most other games, too) in english.

Edit - P.S.: took a quick look at the VA Forums and it looks like my W10 Pro supports multiple language packs for speech recognition... [up]:)

Very true, make sure you don't have any VA settings for 'Dump all cargo' or 'Self Destruct' :D

Yes, ever since Win7 I think language is modular. You still have to set the default language to whatever you want to use for speech recognition (and text to speech). Then just do the speech recognition training at least a few times and you should be good.

PS: English language defaults du QERTY keyboard but can change that.

So that's my problem. I don't sound English enough. ;)
More than 30 years living south of the border and still it willnae understand me. ;)

The voice pack I've got is Vasco with:

BRIAN!!! BLESSED!!!

I didn't realize Voice Attack was available on Steam but I'm glad to see it's catching on. I've been using it for about a year now and it's fantastic.
