Horizons Steam vs Frontier Account

Hey all,

So I am in a weird sort of situation... I have both a copy of the game from Frontier on an account, and then I have a second account that is from Steam. In the past, I could load into my Frontier account through the Steam launcher to play E:D because there was only one version... Now here's my question or confusion:

I got Horizons on my Frontier Account (I wanted to more directly fund and help the development of this game without Steam taking a cut). Can I still launch the game through Steam, log into my Horizons account, and play Horizons?

No, don't think so. You need to run the Horizons version of Elite on steam in order to access Horizons. I've tried this myself and it wasn't until I got my Horizons steam key and redeemed it in Steam was I able to play Horizons. The regular Elite Dangerous steam version won't work. It bends my brain to try to type that out, which just shows how weird the arrangement is, but I hope you get the point!

Where do you get a Horizons steam key when purchased through the Frontier store?

This seems rather counter-intuitive to be honest. Most MMOs and games that have constant updates like this still use the same client and same entry on Steam, it just boosts your account's permissions once in game. Either way, another game to pad my Steam list isn't bad... Just now need to find out how to get a steam key.

Go to your Frontier Store account and click Partner Keys on the left side, while viewing your account details. You should see a button to get a Steam key for Elite Horizons.

And yes it's a really weird arrangement. At first I thought it was because they left the STeam stuff to deal with until the last minute, but now I'm thinking Steam has some requirement for it to be listed as a separate, Early Access game since not all of the Horizons content is released at the time of purchase. You are effectively paying ahead for promised content which falls under their Early Access program.
