Stellar Forge

We have received explanations in a newsletter and also on the Frontier site (https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/features/our-galaxy). Frontier is a company of video game development, and its developers are certainly engineers of high level. But to conceive the galaxy by Stellar Forge seems of quite a different calibre. Who can create the algorithms, the code of a program, so complex ? An developer-astrophysicist ? A scientist of high level ? Stephen Hawking came himself to work at Frontier to participate in Stellar Forge ? David Braben has designed this thing ?

The Stellar Forge is actually more complex and capable that most people give it credit for.

The most amazing thing is that nearly all systems are generated on-the-fly every time, by simulating the formation of that system over millions of years using real scientific knowledge.

You can read some thing about it in these articles:

Yeah, earth likes orbiting neutron stars are so realistic...
I wouldn't be mad if they would be superrare... But they aren't. I can find one per 100-200 neutron stars.

They did at least one thing good: skybox is gorgeous.

I kind of love the procedurally generated galaxy, but I do wish that as scientific discoveries progress that FD would overwrite the procedural generation with new facts that we discover to be the way of things.

I'm not even sure that they don't do that, but I would like it if they did.

They do, quite a number of systems (i cant remember how many) have been hand crafted from finest interstellar dust into the systems we can see through a telescope today.

Hang on..... am I saying that Fdev built the galaxy in response to the galaxy they generated in stellar forge?

<<not sure where reality is today [noob]

Having been to Beagle Point I can say that the galaxy and the way FD have done it is truly amazing, zooming in and out of a whole galaxy to select just one system to me is worth £40 for starters. The work gone into this should not be underestimated and FD should be congratulated.

Jeez man! Lighten up! It's just an algorithm at the end of the day and no matter how good it was there would always be something not exactly like reality. You'd actually have to be God to make it perfect. Why be mad? Enjoy it because I am pretty sure you won't find any other gaming company doing it as well - or, for that matter, caring as much.

Now I'm just pulling this out of my [redacted] but I believe that Stella Forge was a part of the skunk work done by FD. So it has been on the workbench for some time. Also being close to Cambridge Uni must been a plus somehow.
