Stellaris: Megacorp DLC

Stellaris: Megacorp is a major paid DLC for this grand strategy game. It has some interesting lore and features that would also be suitable for ED. Such as megastructures and caravaneer fleets.

"MegaCorp has players taking the helm of a powerful corporate empire to develop a vast trade network across the galaxy, construct massive cities that encompass entire planets, and outdo the competition at every turn."

That's pretty funny.
Love this game, I need more time to play it.
Haven't bought any DLC to date.

I love Paradox, but Im beginning to become really annoyed with their DLC policy

Yes, i do like pretty much all of their games too. Sadly they lost me on Stellaris though with 2.0, haven't touched the game since.
Can only agree on the DLC part, it has gotten too aggressive and greedy for my taste too.
Paradox products for me are now "buy at discount only", and i'll cherry pick only the most important/valuable expansions.

They lost me at Stellaris 1.0... I keep telling myself I have to go back and see it as a brand new game, but can't muster the willpower, it was *so* boring and underwhelming compared to the prettier/bigger DWU it sort of sounded like during development. DWU is still unmatched, pity about the UI and graphics, but ah. Will try to get into new Stellaris over the holidays and see what it feels like. Since 1.0 it seems they redid space travel, combat, diplomacy, resources and I guess trade? That's pretty much another game by now.

And yeah the DLC policy feels insanely out of whack. It's a bit weird because in a way, I love support and expansions. Like, for example I have no feud whatsoever with ETS2 despite its plethora of DLCs, and to be fair to Paradox, each paid update brings tons of free stuff to everyone at the same time. But I don't know, it feels a bit off in the quantity and pricing. Ah well, they still have the best Game of Thrones simulator out there with CK2 and the appropriate mod.

Guess I was lucky in that I only recently purchased stellaris, so avoided the whole 2.0 outrage.

It's rare that a single patch changes the nature of a game so profoundly like 2.0 did with Stellaris.
Yes, if you haven't played it before 2.0, you'd obviously just take (and enjoy) it for what it is, coz that's the one Stellaris you know.
I just couldn't adapt to it, and i tried. I had played Stellaris a lot, and i'm no stranger to Paradox games and their "Clausewitz" engine. Far from it.
It just didn't work out for me, and that's ok. Glad it does for you.:)

2.0 is when it became starlanes for everyone isn't it? That's a bewildering change, really. I get the Holy Multiplayer Balance argument, and in fact, I actually enjoy starlanes in 4X games designed around them, but for a game that sought to go further and offer a wider panorama than the rest of the genre, it really feels like capitulation. Particularly as travel technologies were configurable per-game in the first place...

Yes, it was, but that's not even what nagged me the most. Though i thought the different travel methods did indeed add to the strategic and tactical depth of the game.
I think it was more the change in expansion mechanics and that whole fortress business that ultimately turned me off.
The early game was already slow going to begin with, but i felt the 2.0 changes slammed even harder on the brakes.
I may at some point give it another go, the thing is "Endless Space 2" is just sitting there and waiting to lure me away if i do.;)

Here's an official video about the new features.

That looks pretty good tbh. Corporation game has shades of Pirate faction play in DWU as an asymmetric parasitic role. Massive "cool science bro" points for the black hole extractor too.

Oh and... The tile system is gone!!! That's possibly the single biggest improvement I've seen so far in this game. This is such a gamey leftover from the past, it felt massively out of place.

I really have to revisit the game one of these days.

Unfortunately Kalypso, the makers of my beloved Galactic Civilizations III, are the same. They're literally selling the game piece by piece as DLCs, including things that were already present in the predecessor GalCiv II, which in my opinion is somewhat disgusting. They do the same with their Tropico franchise, although not to the absurd levels of GalCiv III. Having the "full" game costs a small fortune, unless you pick it up during one of the hardcore sales.

Kalypso? You mean Stardock, no? Tropico is Kalypso but GalCiv is Stardock. And yeah, nickel and diming is very much their current trend. I love Offworld Trading Company but they went absolutely nuts on the DLC with it.

That's disappointing to hear.

Correct t's Stardock, Kalypso are the publishers.

I haven't tried the DLC and hadn't played Stellaris in a while where I was playing with the Star Trek mod but hadn't yet reached the "Kirk" years. The Megacorp features look good though and I would agree it would be nice to see some of the space or city superstructures in ED. Although I hope ED never has planet killing power tech, or giant space platforms capable of doing so, where it shouldn't be there with just fusion tech of ED's ships and stations with just the ability to slip limited material into "framshift" , supercruise, and a hyperspace corridor.
