I removed my shields for my hauler so I could mine with it. I haven't lost a ship yet playing open. The worst was repairing the hull 25%, it was a thrilling escape and added tremendously to my gaming experience.

I started out at the edge of civilized space. Biggest cargo pods I can find for my cobra are 16. Where would I find bigger ones?

16 is the max you can get on cobra, in one slot that is.

Do you have a link to a guide for making money with mining? My first foray in a Hauler net me ~6k CR after 2 hours. I clearly had no idea what I was doing.
