Stepping back

So I did the grind: sidewinder - adder - cobra - ASP and have spent the last month or so doing exploration, just hit "ranger" but I just can't face another long exploration run at the moment.

So, I've sold the ASP - it was well upgraded so left me some decent funds. In place I have bought and heavily upgraded a Cobra (exploration, rares, bounty hunting and faction missions all possible). I have also bought a Type 6 - also with major upgrades - primarily kitted out for mining at the moment.

i love exploring and I'll be doing it again in the future but need some variation for a while

That's how you do it, have rep Commander.

I am close to the 30.000 LY travel mark with an perfect fitted ASP, and i will be very happy as soon i reach human space again.

I will never ever do exploration again.
It's so unbelieveable boring, you simply do not find anything interesting out there but round balls which all basically look the same.
There simply is zero variation.

I don't believe our real Galaxy is as boring as the one we have ingame...

Exactly why I have never even begun to contemplate a 30 000LY sightseeing Groundhog day. Ancient derelicts, some type of artifact, I don't know, anything to break the monotony would have helped. Sadly, nada.

Well some people have more than one Cobra. One setup for Pirate/ Bounty Hunter. My case I had one for Exploration/ Smuggling. The Asp I had I was setting up as a explorer until I died in Iron Man mode. :s

I do. Personally, I think "round balls which all basically look the same" is about the most accurate description of the galaxy I can imagine. That's what I would genuinely expect to find out there. No haunted derelicts, no alien artefacts, just lots and lots of very similar looking balls orbiting lots of other very similar looking balls.

The game could definitely use a bit more Fiction in its Science, though. Bring on the dancing Thargoids.

After exploding in the Conflict Zones of the community goal 2 times in my ASP, costing me roughly 1.2 Mio Cr I switched to an A-grade Cobra again, because I wanted that Jack of all trades feeling for cheap - it was a good decision.
The A grade thrusters make all the difference in the Cobra, I hated it w/o and loved the Viper, now I enjoy the Cobra and will probably do some rares trading until I can kit my ASP in more A-grade modules and have more Cr to burn.
The variety is what keeps the game interesting but still the dog fights are the most fun I have in Elite and had for a long time in any game. War Thunder was quite fun too but Frontier nailed the flight model. The changed bonds system really helps with making money - can't wait for the next big happening with a capital class.
