I keep saying this in multiple threads, so perhaps it's time to just move it here.

Imagine for a moment that I'm in a rage-quitting kind of mood. I logged into a game that I used to love and be OK at, and now all of a sudden I'm getting wasted or interdicted at such a rate that it's killed all of my previous enjoyment. I've come the the thread to rage, because ultimately I am hoping that the developers will see it, but also to blow off some steam. What I'm really looking for, deep down inside, behind the wall of rage, is HELP. I WANT to enjoy this game again, but at present it has become unenjoyable for me.

So I hop into the forum and the first thing I see is:

Sticky Thread Sticky: CQC against the devs - The Danger Zone - Tonight at 7PM BST
Sticky Thread Sticky: Active Community Goals Thread #6
Sticky Thread Sticky: Dangerous Games: Wildcard Goals

I then scan the regular thread titles, and see one or two other complaint threads. In contrast, I also see 50 threads that are business as usual.

So, I came in angry and looking for help, saw other people looking for help, and now that anger is intensified because it looks like those pleas for help are being ignored. Moreover, when I do open the other rage threads I see retaliatory responses by folks who must be "pros". Now it's serious rage-quit time.

...

People at that stage aren't in the state of mind to go pouring through threads looking for tidbits of helpful advice. In their eyes, they need help NOW and it doesn't look to them like they are going to get it. So they just lash out... In response, the regular posters are so frustrated and tired of typing advice over and over again that nobody seems to want to take or even sees, that they retaliate by lashing out in turn.

None of this does anybody any good.

What this forum needs, in my opinion, at least for the time being, is a very obvious sticky right at the top of the list. That stickied post should be a welcoming, empathetic, and easy to understand list of all kinds of helpful survivability tips. This would act as a welcome mat for those raging players, and would help to immediately reduce their sense of hopelessness. On the other hand, it would help to alleviate the frustrations of the regular posters by providing them with an easily sourcable link to tomes of advice on how to get the most out of this game. Those folks could drop in on a rage post, say something like "We totally understand! Dying is frustrating and we've all been there! Here's a link to a ton of helpful tips and strategies, and if you have any questions, just ask and we're happy to help!"

That would, in my opinion, alleviate so much pain for both sides of the conflict.

Great idea.

Would also help if the mods started being a bit harsh on the obvious mean spirited mockery many here like to engage in, every time someone loses a few hundred hours of work, even if it is indeed their own fault.

Thanks, myrr mac, I was one of those guys. I got so used to coasting through the previous versions that I just felt completely helpless after the new patch. I came here and raged, mildly in my opinion. There were folks who genuinely tried to help, but others who just threw barbs at me. Those barbs made me completely blind to the other helpful folks.

Finally, after a day or so, I took some of it in. I changed my loadouts, started specializing, paying moree attntion to security levels, etc. I'm doing much better now, and I love this game so much that I really reallywant those other beleaguered folks to love it again, too.

Thanks for mentioning my own post - and I concur. Something that shows people where to find help or gives tips etc. New players or people who don't often visit the forum can get lost here pretty quickly.

And getting more lost, when you already feel lost, just turns your rage dial up to the max.
