Still can't take a stupid screenshot. Looking for suggestions to try & resolve this

I've search through past posts and check/tried all the suggestions I read. It all stopped working some time late last year. My older screenshots are there but neither key combo is working. Used to use F10 or Alt+F10 but that's not working any longer. I do not have the NVIDIA Experience installed (just the basic drivers) and I can't find any other piece of software that could be interfering. I don't install anything other than games on this PC. Nothing "productive". Just games on this box.

Are you playing through Steam? If so, it's F12.

Are you using EDHM? If so, that messes up the F keys for screen shots.

You'll have to use the "Print Screen" button and then use either Photoshop or Microsoft Paint and paste the shot into there and save it.

Not using Steam or EDHM. It's just something weird that's going on. I'm going to reach out to support but I was hoping for some new suggestions while I wait for a response.
Thanks

Greetings,

It's probably a 3rd party app nothing to do with ED binding to the F10 key. I had the problem a year ago but forgot which one it was. MSConfig can turn off startup apps then restart the PC and ED to see if one of those apps is causing the problem.

In windows 10 use MSConfig the System Configuration Tool.
In Windows 7 type MSConfig in the start/run box.

Any recent apps or updates then noticing the F10 key doesn't work in ED?
Any antivirus updates which can block downloads unless you tell them not to.
Are you starting any other apps when running ED that use the F10 key? Not
likely as they shouldn't take effect until you run them.

Added any new extensions to Google Chrome if you are using it? I found one
'Guardio Protection for Google Chrome' that blocked many items on the Frontier
Forum including posting threads.

Nvidia GeForce Experience also binds keys but they can be changed in the app.

Hope this helps.

anti virus permission to write to maybe?...……………... temp disable to see if the cause
for me its f10 to take and storage location is C:\Users\yournamehere\Pictures\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous
which is the original fd not linked to steam version of the game and alt F10 for a hi res screenie
the altenative being windows key plus print screen then hit the paste button in windows paint for the image to then save(win 10)

Dunno if geforce experience altered it?
Isn't their a bind ingame?
I never screenshot so.. mebbe I should?
Ah just did... alt and F10 high res rebound to F12 (and a button on hotas to) so it's easily configured Op

I had the same problem a while back - turned out to be antivirus. I added the EliteDangerous64.exe executable to the list of exceptions in the virus checker and that fixed it.

You re-bounded the screenshot key in ED or another app? I don't believe anyone's ever seen a key bind for that in ED. I even search the bindings file and nothing came up. It's like something that FDev hard-coded.

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions. It took a while but after disabling everything at start and not finding anything, I finally found the problem was with Windows Defender blocking the EliteDangerous executable from modifying the contents of the pictures folder. The best part was that it was not alerting me to any of this and I as I looked through the logs, I also found that it was blocking a bunch of my other games as well from accessing other, various folders.
UGH!! So frustrating but even more so because it was working fine and then all of a sudden, after having had ED installed on this PC for the last 4 years, it NOW decides that ED is a security concern. Really? WTH?

Updates, it's Microsofts way of encouraging you to upgrade to Windows 11.

I won't be upgrading to Windows 11 any time soon as the motherboard I have has no support for TPM anyway and with the current cost of parts it's unlikely I'll be replacing the motherboard/cpu/ram until those prices drop a lot.
