Still colour banding in CV1?

Hi,

Sold my DK2 and am eagerly awaiting my CV1 in June. Has anyone tried the beta and confirmed if they've addressed the horrible colour banding that came with 1.3? Also, does the CV1 have any real issue with black smearing?

Sorry if already discussed, really been out of VR for a while :)

No smearing or banding with the CV1 and the latest Oculus runtime, Elite beta build and Nvidia drivers.

Good to know. I take it you did suffer from these things before though

I had bad smearing on the DK2 with 1.3 but not on the CV1.

The first time I played Elite with the CV1 I was getting gradient issues but it was a fairly trivial matter that required changing my Elite graphics settings to resolve.

No Banding, and if your one ofthe unlucky 'red tint' folk, then the 'spud' utility oculus provide will give you loads of black smearing.
Now Frontier really have to include the Full HDMI range, and life will be a lot better for all VR Users.

I am getting color banding and smearing, I am curious to know what settings were changed to get rid of this ? I am using the current 1.04 Oculus store and I am on a GTX 980 video card.

Turn Ambient Occlusion on, leave gamma and dash brightness down the bottom. Just happen to try it tonite, works very well with smearing.

So far I don't feel I've gotten a confident solid answer, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

To those getting smearing/banding - you tried the beta?

Just tried this and It didn't help at all, I cannot see how anyone using the Oculus Rift CV1 could not be seeing the smearing and color banding in the game, it is almost 16 bit color. There are halos around the stars of white haze, the smoke from the ship is just transparent haze and any black but not true black areas in space have well defined edging. Also the smearing of the dark is just as bad as it was in the DK2. It is sad, such a beautiful game would end up looking so horrible in the Oculus. I think the culprit maybe the OLED screens which have true black, which means the Pixels that represent black in the game are actually off, this makes the difference in between something that is colored black and the stuff that is true black very prominent. It usually can be fixed by making anything black in a game a dark color black that way the pixels are active even for black areas. Just a guess but if you look closely you will notice no screen door effect in the darkest areas of space but anything with color has a screen door effect. The state the game is in, at this point, for VR will deter me from playing it anymore, and I have been spoiled without VR I will just move on to the next space sim.

I miss the way this game looked using the compendium then through runtime 8 even using steam VR overlay. It simply does not look as good too bright, too much gray they really have to fix this problem or we need something along the lines of RESHADE which not even sure if that is possible. I guess it is just me but not happy with the way it looks. Might be the lenses for all I know.

i get this smearing too (16 bit/256 colour effect). it seems to affect anything with black on the screen.

for example, if i start up oculus video, switch to the moon theater and look at the sky the transition between colour and black looks almost as if its being done in 256 colour mode.

videos where there are dark scenes appear pixelated (blacks almost appearing as very dark green/very dark red)

i thought at first my CV1 was faulty but it also does it on the dk2.

in elite messing with the gamma seems to help but other apps look awful.

anyone else had this/fixed it?

I have DK2 and most definitely have BAD black smearing and color issue as described. I did not have this with 0.6 runtime using re-shade which was way more enjoyable. Ok maybe there was small evidence of black smearing but it was minimal compared to now unplayable.Space looks like a messy cartoon.

I was thinking of getting the CV1 but now that some of you are saying these issues still exist, I'm making decision to wait for next gen hmd.
In the meantime I will play warthunder which looks great in my DK2!
