Stock Market

So far I have read a few threads about people becoming bored, lack of content, blah blah blah. So while I was playing, I also had the realization that there could be a better way to make money while still having something to do with the game. It would be more of an "End Game" sort of goal, where after accruing a large chunk of credits (You can afford to sit in an anaconda with no issues), you can start investing in the major corporations and factions of the galaxy. With this would come the ability to accrue large enough sums of credits to potentially create sway in a system and possibly gain control of it, creating a system for player owned systems. The system would work via the panel on your right side, you would gain the ability to press a tab button that will show up after a certain amount of credits have been accrued both in ship value and what you have on hand. Once this is pressed, a main screen will pop up, similar to what you would see at a station, and on that you could check the market trends, read the news, and buy/sell stocks, basically a literal modern stock simulator. With this, the option of player owned companies could be brought up as well and with that so could player owned infrastructure, such as mining sites and stations/bases. I feel that this would breathe a huge amount of life into this game and really reinvigorate the player base.

The second part of this would be to give the players a reason to accrue that level of wealth, and that would be to gain massive political influence and potentially gain control of entire systems. It would be a slow process, but the outcome of sustained efforts on the players behalf would be the ability to lay claim to large chunks of the universe. By doing so, conflict would naturally occur and then the game could really become player controlled and the outcomes of these events would be dictated by whomever can plan and coordinate with others more efficiently. Also with that comes the risk of sabotage, as everyone knows that there is no such thing as too much space or too much power. This would make corporations operate with a somewhat loosely defined structure and system of trust.

By doing this you can greatly stimulate the economy and create a real sense of control in the games universe and have it feel like you have accomplished a great task. Players in those positions of power could possibly create incentives for people to trade specific things at specific times to help influence or maintain power while trying to keep other players from muscling them out. Not only would it make credits feel more important, it would also likely greatly stimulate the trade routes and player driven economies, and it would help gather players into organized groups and give a sense of real purpose to the games environment and breathe some life back into it which seems to be the base issue of the complaints from other players. What do you all think, what would you maybe do differently?
