Stolen Goods what the heck ?

So cheers,

today something nice happend.. i was mining in a metal ring and hell i thought dropping out somewhere will be safe, but no a pair of pirates appeared, since my asp is capable of taking even dangerous pirates, i sent them to the oblivion. one of the pirates dropped palladium and i thought niiice, since i already mined 12 of it, 4 additional would be perfect.
but then, a safety car appeared scaned me, while i easy was mining again, then he told me, now you have 30k to pay.. i was like what the heck, an agressing pilot dropped his while try to rob me, he robbed the palladium anyway, now i have to pay more then the is worth.. so i jumped to the next system selling my mined stuff.. and what happens again, while sneaking in (even deployed heat sinks to 0% heat of the ship), i got scanned, and again damnn 30k to pay.

first of all how was he able to scan while i had 0% heat, why the heck is cargo marked as stolen ?? how you want to know what palladium is stolen when you carry 20 fresh mined in and 4 of then are stolen.. i mean if a something is illegal, ok get a bounty, but stolen goods, comon... its like hey, look this baby has a candy, i take it, and at the next day, the police see me eating that candy and tells me hey that was the candy of the baby, yesterday you stole it, 30k now you have to pay ... ppfff

like that you never be pirate anyway....

Did you switch to silent running? The heatsinks will help you stay in silent mode but they wont make you silent on their own.

When I try to pick up anything in my Adder it just bounces off the hull, what's the correct way to approach the canisters?

It is marked as stolen because it does not belong to you. That palladium had an original owner who you are now depriving of his property. Stealing by finding, it has a present day equivalent.

Deploy your cargo scoop. Watch the cargo scoop graphic NOT out of your window. If you are going too fast it will not pick up.

Hi,

1. 0% heat only makes you harder to detect on radar - it is not a cloaking device - if you are actually seen, you will be scanned - best advice - go to a platform with a black market - far less chance of security ships (in fact next to zero chance)
2. Cargo floating around or dropped is always stolen (unless a player jettisons it as "abandoned"). He stole it, you killed him, you pick it up: It's still stolen and therefore illegal. Don't quite see the analogy of a baby with candy
3. If you don't want to do the time; don't do the crime ;)

On the Adder don't align cannister dead centre of the cross. Align it below the horizontal line. Will be good.

Ok thanks, will try that. Missed a gold canister last night when a Cobra swooped in and nicked it just as I was approaching for the second attempt!

1) You received stolen goods which is a crime even in real life.

2) You were at a station with a high chance of being scanned. Find a outpost with a blackmarket to it and land there.

I don't like the stolen canisters concept in the game, not as long that you can't make them salvaged goods and get a reward for returning the stolen goods.(and the previous owner, that could be me or you, will get a call from the insurance company that their stolen goods have been retrieved and they recieve their money back, minus the reward. Unless you already claimed the insurance ofcourse.)

so you dudes are talking about stolen goods like in real life? lolol. in real life you dont walk around killing pirates (robers)

this stolen goods thing makes no sense. what would make more sense is that selling in the black market the station kept some of the profit for themselves.

now that would be a real life situation...

also unless there are some "cops" around when you steal it how does he knows its stolen? im sorry but real life doesnt even come in to the equation here.

this is called game mechanics...

All goods from cargo in other ships that you take from cans floating in space are classed as STOLEN - not anything else and you can ONLY sell these on the black markets.

The police will fine you if found and you loose rep.

That being said, I think its stupid, as cargo from a criminal should be classed as confiscated and you SHOULD be able to sell it on the regular market or hand it into the station for a reward... not be persicuited for it.

The "theft by finding" in the game is an idiotic game mechanic that desperately needs tweaked. It's just plain stupid! If it is forcefully removed from someone's hold, then fair enough! But for abandoned cargo at USS's or ships destroyed by stations etc it is just rediculous and should come under some salvage mechanic.

Many people defend it by saying "it works that way in real life". But this isn't real life, it's a game.. Such a defence just doesn't carry in any form.
If the game was moddeled on real life :-
We would file a flight plan before launching and would be punished for deviation.
We would pay tax on our earnings and micromanage other bills.
Killing a pirate that attacks us could end us up wanted if we couldn't prove we didn't use excessive force.
The list goes on and on. And it just wouldn't be any fun.

I think this stolen cargo mechanic should be revisited and changed.
I think it should be kept only for clean players and NPC's, but you should be able to handle them like any other bought goods if it come from pirates or wanted players.

Thats more like it.. "it wasnt me" that stole from the others, it was the pirate i shot, because he shot me.. so he is the crime, i just pic up what he left ;-)

If someone steals a car and you perform a citizens arrest of them, you then don't get to claim that car as your own.

Just because you didn't steal it doesn't change the fact that it's stolen.

And I am quite sure that in 3300 cargo containers will be imprinted with the details of the owner. Think about your bike or tv with the post code written on it in UV ink so that if found be police it can be returned. Now think about scaling that up to haulage size and injecting THE FUTURE into such a system. That is why stuff is marked as stolen. Maybe you will be able to buy a module to scrub the ID from containers in future?

So if a semi is smashed next to the freeway and you run over, grab a bunch of stuff and head off to sell it - that's fine?

Think again. That's theft in the real world and if caught, they will bust you for it.

What you are doing finding that stuff in space is going to the scene of a crime and stealing stuff because you can. It's flat out theft -- not "finders keepers, losers weepers" - you are stealing from the victim of a crime scene.

Really!

I saw a guy steal a car transporter the other day full of cars, I chased him down and killed him, I took one of the cars for myself!

Your telling me this in not illegal! Not only that I would get arrested for the murder of the criminal as well!

You got the bounty for killing the pirate, now you want free goods that were never yours as well AND you want to be able to sell them for full price on the open market!

In fact, why not have a free 1,000,000 CR while your at it!

You can sell them (as mentioned above, either avoid being scanned or use an outpost with a black market), however, you won't be able to sell them for full price, because they are stolen! No one is accusing you of stealing them, just they are originally stolen and just because they have changed hands does not change that fact.

If you buy a stolen TV it doesn't automatically become unstolen!

Oh for crying out loud, this is a GAME not real life. Some folk really take it too seriously and treat it like it should be real life... it really shouldn't, otherwise it ends up like EvE and we all don't want that.

THIS. If you read any of the books from Elite world you will find examples of advanced tech and availability of any information abkut any product. You buy something with your cred stick - it is written on cargo manifest. You sell it - manifest gets updated. You take it - manifest still states the name of the previous owner (not you). It is easy to track by the authorities and makes perfect sence lore-wise and 3300 world - wise.
