Stop paying inactive NPC Crew Wages

I recently discovered that I've lost almost around 50 million credits to NPC crew members who were hired but inactive. That's almost half what I have on hand now after spending several days grinding missions and losing at least 12% of the reward to a virtual pilot who didn't even help! Nothing indicated to me that this would happen. I only found out when I was reviewing information in ED Discovery, a third-party tool. I also see this complaint has been around for a long time.

Yes, they should get a salary commensurate with their rank instead.

Don't see why they get a cut of all earnings, they're paid to shoot stuff, they have no hand in any other business.

i so wish this was a thing... pay them a flat weekly wage.... paid when you pay for carrier stuff each Thursday.
pay them when on duty for mission you do, but dont give them anything when off duty just give them basic wage

If you aren't going to use them, fire them.

Then they won't take a cut.

They don't run on zero hour contracts.
Then what's the point of their experience system? If their cumulative earnings raised their experience level, then the way it works now would at least make some sense. But as it stands, leveling up NPC crew comes at great financial cost.

50M credits? That's cute.

She is worth it when I need her. Though I will admit, I have no clue what she spends it on. She could own a few A rated cutters of her own for what I have payed her.

Gotta agree with OP, hiring NPCs that don't do jack is a major waste of resources. FD needs to do away with that or at least charge waaaaaay less for their "services".

A hired pilot should have a contract guaranteeing them X amount of money to be available to serve at any time, perhaps with bonuses for when they actually do stuff. They should not get a cut of absolutely all your business transactions regardless of how little they have to do with them. I have exactly one ship that uses SLFs. That means that 90% of the time, my pilot does nothing, so it's a debate between having an Elite pilot I trained Vs having 10% of all my earnings go to them even though I'm just doing exploring/minding that they had no hand in.

"Inactive pilots still have to pay the bills." Right, swell, I agree. I'll pay their weekly bills, I just can't see why they also get to dip into the hundred something million transactions from mining work.

But then when you want a new one, you invariably get a set of people who are so ugly the Thargoids think they're related.

I still agree though. If they're gonna get paid for everything, they should BLEEPING HELP WITH EVERYTHING!! All they do is fly a fighter, or take over when you do. Full stop. They do no exploration, they do no mining, they do no SRV work.

Don't want to pay a npc pilot? Don't get one.
That was easy.
I have three. One elite pilot, two harmless. They will be filling my ship when and if that comes available.
Hoping they give the last two new skill sets to earn.
Three cuties, took a long time to pick them.
