Stop the Grind! I claim that you can enjoy all aspects of the game with a ship costing 5 million or less!
Hi,
since the forum if full these days with threads asking about how much millions/hour you make, what is the fastest way to “grind”, how to make even more millions/hour etc. I want to chime in with another one of those “stop the grind” posts
I have been playing since premium beta, I took opportunity of the 9.99 sale and bought a second account for a second commander slot and started a fresh commander with the following rules in effect:
1. I must always play in open.
2. One man, one ship. No exceptions.
I claim that you can enjoy all core aspects (trading, exploring, fighting, mission gameplay) this game has to offer with a ship costing 5 millions or less. You can make 5 millions in two days playing casual. This is what I did. You can even be competitive in PVP, if you have the pilot skill, with a ship costing 5 million or less. Just look at the Youtube videos of Commander Na'Qan, JesseUmc Elsa, Lucatiel of Mirrah and others.
For example, I had a great session last night where I took a 4.something million credit Cobra MK III in a super heavy fighter configuration to complete two assassination missions in a row. The first one had me face a FDL with two sidewinder escorts, the second one a Python with two Viper escorts. Guess what! I completed both of them, didn't repair in between and came out of the last encounter with 49% hull, had an intense combat and a great feeling of accomplishment.
Then I slightly reconfigured the Cobra into a super heavy hull tanking stealth fighter and went looking for PVP. I asked a patrolling commander in Eravate in a hull tank stealth FAS if he was up for a practice match because I need PVP practice. He agreed and we agreed to fight until 40% hull. In the end we stopped with me at around 25% hull but he was also down to about 50% hull. He was very hard to hit flying a stealth pitch black FAS. You could hardly see it (I still had the default paint, making me visible). And his ship probably had a worth of about 60 million or so vs. my lowly 4.X million Cobra.
Long story short: I have a lot of fun playing around with the small ships and enjoying every aspect of Elite. My main acount has an A-spec Clipper and a fleet of about 12 ships (that is why I implemented the one man one ship rule on my secondary account) but I really enjoy the current gameplay with my second account.
To add emphasis to my point I would like to point you to the Ships of Elite forum where I posted some 5 million or less configs for all the gameplay aspects.
So stop grinding, start playing, and measure your sessions in fun per hour, not credits per hour (but if credits = fun for you, thats fine too, of course).
Fly safe.
