Storage

Hello Pilots

I was wondering do you get your own Storage Bay Containers to store your Items in game ?

There is currently no way to store anything, except for cargo in your hold, and entire ships at certain ports.

Storage of both ships and equipment was specifically discussed in the DDF, and was in the final accepted proposal - however that's not a document carved in stone, just a statement of intent.

At the moment all you can do is hanger multiple ships, but if the original plan is followed we will eventually be able to remove modules and equipment and transfer them between ships. However warehousing of equipment, commodities or resources will probably not happen, as it's outside the original game parameters.

That's probably - not definitely :)

Thanks for the thread. That answered my question, too.
However, what about a temporary extra storage room, maybe offered for rent at any station?
That would allow small haulers willing to go back and forth several times in order to complete big deliveries...and the cost of the extra storage rent could be worked out in percentage, either of the fee you are going to get once the delivery is done, or of the commodity/-ies being stored.

IMHO, they really should allow the storage of modules for a ship you own. I don't want to have to buy 2 Cobras if I want to go bounty hunting, and then exploring. I want to be able to store the relevant modules somewhere and fit them in and out as needed. Making you buy a whole ship if you want to fulfil 2 roles makes no sense at all, especially with the difficulty in finding some of those modules. Nobody is going to want to give-up a hard to find module if it's rare, regardless of it's cost and suitability for that player's role at that time. They need to make all modules ubiquitous (at high tech stations), or allow the storing of them.

I'm not interested in storing loads of cargo, but I can't see much harm in it either if there is a limit to the number of tonnes you can store.

I agree I think the storage of modules allows interchangability and hoarding of one's good finds. Probably not so much with commodities but then you can't buy equipment and weapons off the open market can you?

Given the complaints from some regarding the fact that stored ships remain at the station they were stored at and cannot be summoned instantaneously to the player's current location, the exact same "problem" will occur with stored items - they would also be stored in a specific location. To transport them to the players current location would require to be paid (and waited) for. If commodities were included in this then it would be a bit too close to drone trading for my liking.

Good point well made. In which case, forget commodities, let's have ship modules stored, even if you do have to go and collect them from a particular station (or have all modules available at all high tech worlds)

Having personal module storage (at a price) would remove one of the more nonsensical issues you get when upgrading your ship modules.

E.g. upgrading the cargo racks in a new Lakon 6, two size 5 compartments with size 4 racks (16 tons), two size 4 compartments with size 3 racks in (8 tons).

You have to make sure the station sells both types of cargo rack you want to buy. Presumably the work shy, bureaucratic technicians won't let you slip them a few hundred credits just to move your size 4 racks into your size 4 compartments leaving you able to just purchase the two size 5 racks you were after?

"No, no, no mate, sorry, union rules isn't it. We don't supply that size rack here so it can't be done, like I said, it's the union rules. Don't even have the right sized hydro-spanner."

"Try Aulin or somefink."

Plus occasionally it would be nice to re-arrange the order you have some of your utility modules/weapons fixed in. Maybe it's just me but I like to have my energy weapons and kinetic weapons grouped together.

Do I need a life? I do don't I, I need a life.

But I've just bought an Asp....

Well Robert
It's to bad you said that because the role of playing a freighter has just been blown out of the star system. If I cannot haul a 200,000 load of ore this is not good. If I cannot store up some simple commodities or ore how are we going to make things.?

I believe when the Full-Retail Game is launched there will be many different changes. Because right now the amount of cargo space is wrong and surly cannot stay like this for Frontier will not make any sales if a Large Freighter ship cannot hold at least 1000 of some Commodity. And if you cannot store away any of your goodies how can you plan a strategy to make a fortune down the road...... Things have to be different , " I hope".

Maybe you can store goods ... question to all Multiship Users: When you change your ship, must the Cargo empty?
If not...buy a few Anaconda and Fit them with Max Cargo and then dictate the Prices...;)

But back to Topic.... Storage locker is a must, and it will be Ok if you must Pay for the Lockerroom and the Transfer if you need the Stuff in an other Station.
Also it takes time to transfer ... I think that will stop hoarding...;)

...
If commodities were included in this then it would be a bit too close to drone trading for my liking.

Indeed, my feelings exactly. I don't mind the idea of being able to store and pay for delivery of ships and modules with an appropriate delay (in fact it would be most useful) but not commodities.
