Newcomer / Intro Stories from the Void. Exploration Stories.

Hey guys.

Since I've just joined the Exploration side of Elite, I was wondering if anyone out there in the newcomer's forum had any interesting stories about their random adventures in the black?

Anything will do, post about the farthest star you've traveled to the biggest mistake you've ever made while heading out to chart the unknown.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll start us off by stating that since I don't know all that much about exploration I decided to delve into the black last night and attempt to make enough money to fund an Adder and get rid of my little Sidey.

So I left from Kremainn and headed down towards Uzumeru and out into the black, scanning and travelling as I went. I had never used a Fuel scoop before so it was interesting flying up close to a star and then sitting on it, recharging.

I kept going in that particular direction until I was out about 100 LY from Kremainn and jumped to an unexplored star, little did I know it was a White Star, or that the heat range of those star is incredibly massive. So I jumped into it's field and boom my ship suddenly over-heated and I was dropped out of super cruise. My ship was screaming and beeping and telling me that it was all over. I noticed that my shields had died and I was taking heavy heat damage. I quickly transferred all power to engines with one pip left in my sys just for good measure and boosted straight out, away from the star, praying my FSD would recharge in time before I was melted into oblivion.

Luckily I was able to FSD jump back out and super cruise just out of its range. I sat there for a moment awe struck at the huuuuge blunder I had made and how it almost cost me possibly over 50K CR worth of data.

So far this is the only worthwhile story I have from Exploring.

What are some of yours?

Went out about 200 LY toward the galaxy centre in my Hauler. Had a good time using my basic scanner to get scans - everywhere was already discovered as you might expect. Of course I was interdicted and destroyed on the way back so I lost all my data. Remember you can only disco something once so if you get killed you cant get that data back ever again. Using a basic scanner you have to rely on visible parallax to see far away planets as it only has a 500 LS range. Using this method I found many objects way out from the jump in point. I found one system with a brilliant white star and a binary twin so far away the white star was a speck when I got there. Also several systems with multiple ringed planets. One of which had a ringed moon around it as well.

If you are playing open you might get more luck selling your maps somewhere well away from populated areas. Or jump out as soon as you see a CMDR contact appearing.

I've had similar experiences. Did you try submitting and then boost like crazy once you were engaged?

I've gotten away almost everytime now by diverting all my power to sys and eng and doing crazy manouvers until FSD is good to go.

Great story though. I may have to head out much farther now. I'm excited to actually run into some Dwarf stars and find some earth-like astral bodies.

Getting to the center of the Verse was pretty straigh forward and I have to say Sag A was a magnificent sight. But coming home proved somewhat problematic. My trajectory took me to the roof of the verse where star systems are somewhat rare. It was necessary to do an about face and find a new way home. After 26,000 lys out the last thing I needed was a detour. Homewar bound now and only a few thousand ly from my home of Eravate. Looking forward to a cool beer.

My first voyage was a sightseeing trip to Betelgeuse in an Adder. The scale of the star is incredible. For closest planet -I think is about 1000 light seconds out - feel free to correct me - you can't get close enough to scan without taking heat damage (unless you are clever and approach in the planet's shadow - I'm not clever)

Betelgeuse is only about 700 light years from inhabited space (maybe less) - I'd highly recommend it as a target for an exploration trial run

The galaxy is indeed full of strange and wonderful things.
You normally find Earth-like worlds around F,G,K and M stars. So it is peculiar to find one around a neutron star...

I started out on my first exploration Monday night past. Currently am about 700ly from my home system of CANTJARISNI and was on my way to the elephant nebula but am considering a turn round, cash in and refit the asp. I think I could have a better setup.

Anyway on finds, last night I seen a nice gas gaint with rings and 3 moons all in a very close orbit. All 3 where within the radius of the ring and 1 was actually in the middle of the rings and the other 2 were in touching distance of each other. Wish I had taken a screen shot, maybe on the way back.

I'll make it short: Wandering from the Plejades region towards the California Nebula when suddenly:

Hehe... yeah, that was awesome! :D

Kerching! Good find indeed.

I'm about 2000LY out at the moment and finding nothing interesting at the moment. A lot of single star systems which tend to be T Tauris...

I'm on a 2-week or 3/4-week exploration trip. I haven't decided when I'm going home yet.

The scariest part of exploration is re-entering populated space...and docking safely.

I think it would be great if they added a mechanic so when you are the first discoverer of an earth-like you got to name it...

Tbh, it's not that common to find earth likes orbiting M and K stars. G and F are most common, not that it's impossible for earth likes to be found near Ms

Hmmm, I dunno. I'd find it rather immersion breaking to come across an already discovered earth-like planet called Penisface or Rimjob or Reacharound or some such 'amusing' moniker that would no doubt end up being someones idea of 'hilarity'. Thats apparently also the reason Hello Games have taken that functionality out of No Man's Sky.

I gotta agree with Rubblemaker on that one.

There's a totally valid reason that they don't allow playernamed worlds. I also don't want to see a BH in the center of a galaxy named 420xxNoxxScopexxSWED or xxH4x0rzP74N3Txxx.

I mean they could possibly implement some sort've restrictive filter for entering in a planet name, but I doubt it'd be that good. Filters can usually be bypassed by the more creative user. :p

I haven't found any earth like planets as yet just a water world but was wondering if there is any intelligent alien life on them or are humans the only intelligent (and I use the term lightly) life in the universe.

Intelligent alien life will be added in a future expansion or update.
