[Story] Durious - Thoughts?

I decided to try out this story stuff and bit the 150LY bullet to travel to Durius. When I finally get there, it's a 280,000 LS ride to the nearest station! 10 minutes later, I finally get there and dock at Fourier station to save. I decided to pop open the traffic report and noticed only 500 ships travelled to that area in the last 24 hours. Just wanted to get what other peoples' thoughts on the story and gameplay mechanics so far. Do you think it's worth it? Not worth it? Granted the travel time was a bit outrageous, but I was kind of hoping to see a larger player count at these events. I'm just about to try one of the war zones, which I'm hoping will offer some excitement.

Ah, I was about to make a trip over there to check things out. How is the weather there? Any good conflict zones for me to kill lots of people with?

They definitely need to make it so we can jump directly to the star which actually has stuff to interact with. 280,000+ LS to get to anything is insane, and doing it multiple times for missions sucks balls. I'm typing this while I wait for the ten minutes to pass. Seriously not fun.

Just found a high intensity war zone below Durius C2. So far it's pretty crazy. Lots of Anacondas, Pythons, and ASPs. Haven't seen any capital ships yet. The scenery is beautiful though as you can see a large gas giant and its rings in the background.

If this conflict is the same as Sorbago, I won't make the trip. In Sorbago no one knew how the war was going, because the faction influence was locked. Suddenly it was 76/8 for the Empire and everything was calm again.

As for the travel distance: I think the distance and time it takes is crucial for the game experience. There is already a fast travel from one system to the other. Shortening the time it takes to travel within a system makes it too easy. Space is vast and although I also hate long flights, I endure them. Did I mention space is a massive big playground?

The worst part is, that these events are too shallow. There is only a news entry telling us something has happened, hoping people will join. Fight some, trade some more, suddenly everything is back to normal, no news entry, no reward for the effort...

I can't deny the feeling this sytem was chosen to see how a conflict evolves without trading, since the stations are so far away, which presumably will keep most traders out of this conflict.

one tip if your thinking of going there. Stop off at a high tech to fit out for battle. No outfitters in system and even if there were i doubt they would be up to much.

Its not helping that if you support the empire side you dont have a friendly station to dock at - im unfriendly with the 2 stations there and if it goes to hostile then any repairs will need to be done out of system....cue 280,000ls journey to get back into the action.

Mone is very poor also. 3K for everything you kill - even exploration is better money than this :)

Does the level and availability of modules change with more or less supply? If not, this has to be implemented. What is a blockade good for if you can still buy A class items around the systems relying on resources brought in/out of the area.

If a station is hostile to you, you can still dock and get repairs, just have to watch out for security vessels on the way in.

I had great fun in Jera landing at Asire port where they hated me. Always made sure I took a couple pot shots at the security forces on my way out just to annoy them some more.

On my way to Durius now. Hopefully see some of you there.

i think FD will slowly implement mechanics where we can strangle a system economically and then the quality of weapons and so forth in the station is affected. also traders being able to upgrade a solar system through interaction, perhaps a change of political controlling faction can change the market and weapon, ships and so forth taht are vailable

I get that space is large, but why couldn't I just lock onto the other star and hyperdrive to that one instead of the useless one which has nothing to explore, no activity going on near it, and only serves as yet another barrier between players actually noticing that there is actually a storyline even happening in the game.

This ^^

Said it before and I will say it again: just make the FSD jump to the star that has the bigger population orbiting it

I'm here! Just had my first high intensity battle. Sad not to see any capital ships yet and it cost me 4000cr in ammo for a 13,000cr contract. No other human players either. But still really good fun and well worth the journey which seems fast if you've been to Hutton Orbital at Alpha Centauri.

id like to have the ability thro group actions to encourage more stations in a system - and perhaps even have factions that are fighting actually destroy or downgrade stations, as per the factional influence system

Maybe, though I've done worse hauls. I've been selling personal weapons there for a profit and mission rewards, theres always someone on the bulletin board there who wants them.

A good Federal officer always stands ready to supply arms to those oppressed by the Empire. :p

280k LS? Bah... we should pick another system to stir up trouble in.

Agreed... I'm in Buricasses... it's quite close, and has the same Faction War on the go.

Plus points over Durious...
1. It has a few high tech/industrial systems nearby.
2. The action is ~300ls from the star.
3. The fighting is above a gorgeous earth-like planet.
4. The stations are friendly to the Empire, so if you are a filthy slave-monger like me, fill your boots :)

Plus, you are close enough to Durious in case anything juicy happens over there!

I take it back, there is a capital ship ' Majestic Class' and can confirm it WILL shoot back ;-)

Yeah, I just ran into the Majestic at Darius C1. The thing just decimated the Darius Dominion fleet. I'd have to say that was worth the admission price :)
