Strange and spooky NPC behaviour.

Towards the end of this evenings play session my ship was sitting on the launch pad inside a station.
Just texting friends and watching those yellow trucks move around inside the ring roads. (Counting their pattern of movement) And I noticed three ships just hovering stationary inside the station....motionless, not doing anything.
Eventually they were systematically blown up by the station. So after that I watched another three launch from their pads and orientate themselves to the slot and just hover....again motionless. Again, station blows them up after the set time.
Bound to be a bug obviously but never noticed it before and it looked like mass spooky behaviour. .....Zombie ships ....
Has this been occurring for long ?

I've tried pushing these ships out of the station, but not succeeded before the station threarened my ship with destruction.
It may be possible to push one to where its AI can take over and get it out. Has anyone else tried this?

OP - Yes, a long time and there have been several other threads about it. One posted even by myself.

I wish they'd focus on the 10% refueling button and the DO NOT fix my paint job issues.

Haha...yes.
I'm in and out of stations fairly rapidly usually and have never stopped long enough to notice this issue.... Still, very spooky watching these ships behaviour.

One thing I've noticed with this bug: if you attempt to leave the station, it seems to wake them up more often than not - and you suddenly have half a dozen ships, including yourself, all heading towards the mailslot.

I'm not quite sure exactly what causes it - it seems to be a conflict in the AI "give way" routine, where they're either giving way to a phantom ship, to a floating piece of debris, or to another ship they're perpetually locked into "giving way to the other ship" with. If it's the latter, then a CMDR flying past forces everybody to give way to the CMDR, resetting the routine and breaking the loop.

I play in Solo, if it makes any difference.

Honestly, I can't think of another space sim with a problem like this. The longer you sit in a station, the more ship debris from dead ai. It makes me wonder if the docking timers are there for griefing players or cleaning out the malfunctioning npc's. Things do seem to have improved a little since the early days, when npc T9 blockades were a thing.

It's all 100% faff, but here's my Top 5 reasons this is going on :D

1) Criminals sent out for execution.
2) NPC Insurance Fraud
3) Station Security playing a prank on friends.
4) The local cult achieving transcendence.
5) Impounded ships being scrapped
