"Strange creature" from the official Jurassic World Twitter account

Before I get started, I just want to point out that, for those who don't know, Jurassic World: Dominion, the next and final big film of the JW Trilogy saga, has confirmed on October 6 its release date delayed to June 10 2022, due to the ongoing pandemic. That's unfortunate, though not too surprising I suppose. Yesterday, on their Twitter page, they even added that a small number of their crew have been tested positive for the virus. So, please wish them the best, and hope them for a full recovery. As a result, the filming itself has been paused for the moment, but not for too long. In spite of the issues, they are all still confident about the film, and I know I still am pretty excited for it!

Interestingly enough, when they did post their status yesterday, they even added this for their photo:

It's a strange creature with a face mask. Now, to quickly confirm, I'm not guaranteeing this creature is totally JW Dominion related, let alone be in the final production (as creature props have been cut numerous times from the final films throughout the series' existence), but because there are coincidences that are too hard to argue with, I'm positively assuming this creature alone is Dominion related, and to appear on screen.

Some people on Twitter speculate it's a baby ceratopsian, or at least a small species. But I personally don't agree for three reasons:

1. The legs are too sprawled out.
2. Its snout looks way too flat, even behind the mask.
3. It has hair-like bristles around its face.
All of these don't feel like they would properly apply to a Jurassic Park film style looking ceratopsian.

I think what this thing is it's a non-dinosaur creature. A mammal-like reptile to be precise. My best guess is that it's some kind of dicynodont. If it's a baby, then it has to be a baby from something bigger like a Placerias or something. If it's an adult, then it has to be some kind of small tiny species, like a Lystrosaurus or something. Regardless, I believe it has to be a species that would work best for a general audience and nothing too weird or something like that.

If true, then this will be the first time a mammal-like reptile has been in a big theatrical JP/JW film in the franchise. And if so, then why would this be a choice for implementation from a behind the scenes perspective, and what reason is there for anyone to bring this particular species back to life in an in-universe perspective?

And that's about it on my speculation side.

Regardless, what in the heck could this thing really be, and will it be in the final film?

Yep, looks like a shrink wrapped dicynodont alright. Dimetrodon was one of the props from the last movie, so it's not too out there.

Lystrosaurus is a safe bet I think, being pretty common worldwide and probably the best known to the general public. The limb proportions also seem to fit with Lystrosaurus more than other Dicynodonts like Dicynodontoides, not really being digging fore-limbs by the looks.

Just recently, Colin Trevorrow, who I just found out has also independently posted the image with the coinciding message of some crew members testing positive that day, confirmed today what the animal is.

Indeed, it is a Lystrosaurus!
Due to how the coincidences are too hard to argue with, I'm positive this will make it the first living mammal-like reptile, a dicynodont, in a JP film! (IF this species does make it in the final film that is, because anything is possible.)

well the only dinosaurs left for Frontier to add to Jurassic world Evolution are..... even though some of them were skeletons it's still up their chances for being added, I don't mind if updates aren't needed to add them in.

Alamosaurus
Concavenator
Teratophoneus
Pachyrhinosaurus
Kosmoceratops
Agujaceratops
Hadrosaurus

Maybe lystrosaurus much later?

About the same place as Teratophoneus unless it's actually in the movie
Unless this prop goes unused or relegated to some corner offscreen, then definitely no... this Lystrosaurus appears to be readily identifiable, unlike the so-called Teratophoneus which is not only barely visible, but is so unrecognizable beyond "generic theropod" that they could easily recast it into whatever they want...

So was it ever confirmed that the skeletons were from genetically engineered dinosaur like the taxidermied animals? ...or are you just assuming this? ...either way, your list is incomplete...

The dracorex and Diplodocus were Taxidermy in the Lockwood Manor in the movie and they were added to the game. TERATOPHONEUS was supposed to appear in Fallen Kingdom in a scene hunting a baby Triceratops what was cut from the final film, a prop used of a dead Teratophoneus outside the tracking station in Fallen Kingdom on nublar, and of course yes as a skeleton in the Lockwood Manor, in Canon this species was cloned by ingen and Masrani before the first Jurassic world movie in Canon. besides the skeletons on the other hand such as Alamosaurus and Kosmoceratops aswell as Agujaceratops are pretty interesting animals and I would love to see them into the game even if they were skeletons, they were still referenced even if they were skeletons so that gives them a much higher chance of being included into anything that includes this game or the next.

That can happen. Unless, of course, the species itself plays a bigger role, appearance wise. In that, they don't need plot roles or anything like that, but at least some major noticeable screen time, done in the right way that is.

The "strange creature" would be a Lystrosaurus. If you look up a Lystrosaurus, they look the same. It was easy for me to tell it was a Lystrosaurus immediately because of ARK gameplay. Also, not that it's concrete, but looking at how Jurassic World: Alive added things like the Giganotosaurus and Therizinosaurus with the release of Dominion, because they were in the movie, them adding the Lystrosaurus doesn't seem like a coincidence.
