strange FPS drops/ freeze frames

Hi everyone,

I've been searching the forums on this toppic but haven't found a thread that deals with my problem, so here it goes:

Very often I encounter a really strange drop in fps. Unlike the experience that others described in the forums, this feels like a sort of hickup.
Smooth gameplay is interrupted by a huge framedrop or even a still image/ freeze frame in a mostly consistent interval of about a second. so, one missisippi, freeze frame, two missisippi, freeze frame, etc.

This is my setup:
Macbook Pro Retina 15" (MacBookPro10,1, ME665xx/A)
Intel Core i7-3740QM @ 2.7 GHz (quad core)
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, 1024 MB
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with bootcamp (never mind me running win on a Mac, I'm a heretic)

I can run most of the latest games with decent FPS in almost best quality. For example, I played Alien Isolation recently on high quality settings and a little less than native resolution (2880x1800), framerate was around 45-50 fps.
I'm running ED on mid settings, windowed borderless (makes no difference compared to fullscreen), 1600x1024, solo mode.

Sometimes, a restart helps to solve the fps hickups, but occasionally they return if i enter a new system or after planets load/appear in FSD.
I also tried the lowest and higher graphics settings. Except for a constant decrease in fps on highest settings, the hickups remain the same, no matter the settings.
I also noticed, that these hickups not only affect the game, but also my OS and everything else when the game is minimized (both in windowed borderless and fullscreen mode), i.e. if I minimize the game and move my mouse around the desktop, the pointer freezes in the same intervals, same goes for other programs, e.g. if I start firefox and browse or type something into the search form.

Is it possible that this may be a server/connection issue?
Or could it be that the CPU freezes?
Did anyone else experience this or something similar?
