Strange msg when trying to FSD

I hit FSD from normal space and got the following message; 'FSD cancelled, cloud not scanned.'
I have no idea what this means. It eventually seemed to go away by itself after several FSD attempts. Any idea anyone?

Ah... That might be it, I could have done. I haven't got a FSD wake scanner fitted, is it somehow tied to trying to jump?

Yep, if you have a wake targeted, you need to have scanned it to used he FSD and follow whomever left it.

When you target them, then scan them and then try to engage the frameshift drive it will try to jump to wherever the ship that left the cloud jumped to.

As the two above posts say, you targeted a FSD wake. You then either re-targetted or the FSD wake disappeared (as they do after a short period). which allowed you to jump. Done it myself several times

Yes. You are trying to make your ship jump after a ship since you have its wake targeted. But since you dont have a wake scanner the ship dont know what to do and it tells you you need to scan it first.
