Newcomer / Intro Strange NPC message.

Hello everyone, thank you for you time and consideration ahead of time.

I've been playing for a few weeks now, I still find myself aimless. But I'm eager to earn money and explore.

I found myself trying my hand a few new missions, one of which brought me to an npc named "John Thomas"

His message to me was odd and went...

"We know what your up to commander, your one of the scout the Labour of Pices sent out to find the Rebel Transmissions."

He went on to say...

"Do you have any idea the number of lives you're endangering in your greedy attempt to make a miserable payday? Just because your not the one pulling the trigger doesn't mean you're aren't responsible for what happens when you drop that data off."

And then he said...

"Step away from the destructive path Commander. Come find me at $##abadestinationstationanme;"

So while I am eager to explore this "story?" I'm left without a clue where to go, or what to do now.

If you abandon the mission and go to the station he told you to he will pay you something for not completing the original mission. You will lose respect with the faction who gave you the mission but may gain some with the minor faction he represents.
I'm not sure if it makes the alternative rewards clear in your transaction tab.

report it as a bug as this is an old bug. It should function as Evyl Minkey described.

That's a woopsie bug. As for "story" there is no story really. These "Go kill <something>" missions always have some guy who tries to tell you to Abandon..it's just fake life/content inserted into the game... Just a heads up :)

You can do the alternative to a missions if it gives you the correct name. Most of the missions have an alternative option whether it's a blackbox mission or a kill pirates mission.

The kill missions are currently bugged in 1.1 though as when you get offered the alternative it resets your kill count. This should be fixed in 1.2

Well. I've liked the game so far. But I'm more aimless than before...

I have a similar mission running right now (still need to find the rebel transmissions).
That's indeed the text you read in the comms menu, but if you go into your left menu/transactions, and click on the mission, you can choose to abandon the original one, and get a system- and station-name to go and meet instead.

So far so good...but I don't like the fact, that the text of the original goal has disappeared, plus it's expiring-timer as well.
Should I still continue searching those transmissions? And in the same system as before? Or just stop searching, as this also "prevents the enemy from getting their hands on them".


Just to be sure, I went ahead, and flew to the station he told me to go (empty handed, still), but couldn't turn in my mission.
So, abandoning ain't the same as completing here...still gotta find those transmissions, and turn them in to this alternative party instead.
And now I don't know how much time I have left....no mission timer anymore.
Plus that I can't abandon either, looks like my hands are tied.
Not complaining, though. Interesting twist, even more so because the new station destination is Leonard Nimoy Station in LHS 3006. :D
