Strange (to me) behavior after self destructing then revisiting previously explored system

I was out exploring (DSS'ing various planets) and ran out of fuel.
No biggie, I was OK with SD'ing and losing the data, gotta learn from one's mistakes! [yeah, I know, fuel rats, yadda yadda :-]
However, when I went back to revisit the systems, the planets I had previously explored were all missing from the System Map.
I don't have an FSS fitted to this ship so can't scan them down again but this just seems weird - I can see the other planets I didn't scan.
Is this a bug? WAI (if so, why)?
Thanks y'all!
(oh, this is Odyssey if that makes a difference, but I never hit any surfaces)

I was wandering around the edge of the bubble and noticed a couple of systems that showed as undiscovered. After FSSing them, they were all discovered (as expected in the bubble). So I am guessing a bug.

Okay, I might be completely wrong, but isn't the FSS a module you can't sell - so it's there in every single ship?
Oops, no, you're right, I just got confused. After I've used the D-DSCANNER the planets are missing, so I guess I have used the FSS too. Regardless, sounds like a bug. Thanks

No it's not a bug, your ships computer populates the system bodies from the data supplied by UC. If you die and don't sell your data to UC then the planets haven't been recorded by UC so they don't appear to pilots. If you don't see planets it means no-one has yet sold the data for that body to UC, if you see planets you haven't scanned then the data for those planets has already been sold to UC by another player. It's quite common to get systems where some planets are visible and some aren't because a previous visiting pilot only scanned and sold data for some of them.

Thanks, however I have a few doubts about this explanation:
  • The systems are all well inside the bubble (e.g. Col 285 Sector TK-E c12-27 [planet 6 is missing for me])
  • The planets were on the system map the first time I visited the system, but they're gone now.
  • The other planets in the system are still there, only the ones I scanned are missing.
  • There are holes where they should be, like o-o-o---o-o when planet 4 is missing.
It's as if my scan data overwrote the global data and when I died that data was lost.
Which may be WAI but it's pretty weird that I can't get the global data back.

1) Doesn't matter, not all systems in the bubble show planets for new explorers, the major ones do, but many minor ones don't.

2) I will have to take your word for that because I wasn't there, there have been a few bugs lately where bodies are missing when they should be there, this may be one of them.

3) You can't scan them with the FSS if they are already there, heavily populated systems will show all bodies when you open the FSS, if there are signal lines in the FSS for bodies then they aren't there in the system map for you, that's how it works. However I am not sure we are talking about the same thing here, do you mean scan with the FSS or map with the DSS?

4) That's normal for a partially explored system where the data has been sold to UC, you can see the bodies for data that has been sold, there will be gaps where other bodies should be.

At the moment it's hard to say whether you are having a bug or not because there are a few issues around, but normal operation unless it's one of the core systems (not as in core of the bubble but an important system for power) if a system hasn't been explored and the data sold you will see no bodies. If it's been fully or partially explored by someone else you can see the bodies on the system map for the bodies that have been sold to UC. If you open the FSS you will only see signals not planets.
