Strangest Animals Ever

Hayo, y'all. Me again starting yet another thread. Anyways, what is the strangest animal/s y'all have heard of?

For me:

images.jpeg

Platypus - a mammal that lays eggs, uses electrolocation, and has poison spurs. And it can glow under UV light?!

Pitohui - a poisonous bird? Weird, but I'd love it in PZ

Those are only 2 of the weirdest animals I've heard off. What about y'all?

A poisonous rat that licks deadly toxins onto its own fur sounds like some kind of made-up nightmare species. But these creatures are real, and scientists now say they are also unexpectedly affectionate—at least with their own kind. To would-be predators, the African crested rat, Lophiomys imhausi, is trouble.

The first animals that comes to mind is any deer (or deer-like animal) with fangs. E.g. any species of musk deer, tufted deer, muntjac or water deer.

It turns out, the existence of most of these species are fairly common knowledge. I, however, was first "introduced" to these animals a couple of years ago - totally by coincidence. And I've found them equally freaky and remarkable ever since.

I'm looking forward to seeing, what other people are gonna add to this list.

Oh man. Now I can picture: "Planet Zoo Crazy Critters" pack. We already have 4 weird beasts. What's next? I'm so excited

It wasn't mentioned that they need to be Animals that can be found in Zoos, so I present

Cymothoa exigua

A Parasite that replaces the Tongue of its Host

Candiru

A parasitic Fish that swims into the uuuuh Body of its Host and starts to drink the Blood

Astyanax jordani
A Fish that lives in Mexican Caves that has no Eyes

I think there are also Birds that drink Blood (I think it's some kind of Galapagos Finch) and a Bird whose Chicks defend themselves from Predators trough spitting something on them (not sure if it was Stomach Acid or something else. If I remember it exactly the Stuff that they spit is also sticky and makes it difficult for predatory Birds to fly) don't know which Species it could've been

I've heard of the Candiru (River Monsters with Jeremy Wade) and the Astyanax. The bird you're probably thinking of is an Oxpecker. Now about the Cymothoa, just post a pic of the animal itself

If you mean the Blood drinking one, I'm pretty sure it's a Galapagos Finch or something similar.
Not sure what the other one could've been but if I remember correctly it lives close to the Ocean. Both Behaviors are unknown to me from Oxpeckers

Edited my Post to contain a Picture of the Tongue Parasite

To be honest, if someone had never heard of or seen one (or a picture of one) before, the Platypus would probably be the weirdest most unbelievable animal out there. Evolution is amazing but sometimes you have to wonder how exactly it ended up doing what it did.

One rather odd animal is the moonrat - despite its name and looking a bit like a white rat, they are one the largest members of the hedgehog family. They live in the rainforests of Southeast Asia and are keen swimmers. They have coarse hair rather than quills and defend themselves instead by producing a noxious smell compared to rotting garlic. Their odour is so strong that at least one person in Borneo described being awoken from deep sleep by the smell of one walking beneath his raised house.

Hmm... I probably have a whole list of weird animals, but its late and I don't have time to look them up... that said, I do have one that comes to mind; the Secret Toad-Headed Agama (Phrynocephalus mystaceus), a lizard weird skin flaps that extent from the sides of its mouth when it opens.

Oh! And many of the saturniid moths, like the Atlas Moth, that lack any sort of mouth or digestive system in their adult forms and only live long enough to mate before they starve to death...

Me: what the heck is "Carrion"?

Turns to Google.

Google: "CARRION is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin."

Great, now I understand. Thank you Google.
Also needed to search the English Word first. Now that I think about it, I should've just written rotten Meat. I will edit it.

The Concept of that Game sounds interesting. Maybe I'll google it later
