Stronghold Carriers Ignore Notoriety

There's nothing more frustrating than doing a few hours of Powerplay naughtiness, heading back to your local Stronghold Carrier to cool off, only for an NPC to bump into you and give you a 100 credit fine YOU CAN'T REMOVE for TWENTY HOURS.

In a larger, less agile ship, it's perfectly possible to be punished for almost an entire day for something no fault of your own.

The simples answer seems to be, Stronghold carriers should ignore notoriety.

It really doesn't make sense they care about it in the first place, they KNOW you're a trusted agent.

Old smuggler says :
1) line yourself up so you land without turning from 10km away.
2) as you enter carrier airspace pop silent running.
3) use a heatsink to negate internal heat buildup.
4) land as quickly as possible.
5) switch off silent running

That might work for docking without getting scanned, but how does that help Demiser get rid of a fine quicker? Or prevent the fine from being incurred in the first place? Seems going fast and cold would cause more collisions than it prevents in a high-traffic place such as a stronghold carrier.

The foolproof way to prevent speeding fines is to travel under 100 m/s.

Also, good luck getting a parking spot at a stronghold carrier on the first try. Even in solo.

It means for the 2 hours he is flagged he can still operate..
10km out and facing the rear of the carrier, boosting in pop SR then land. I've done it 1000s of times with stolen, toxic, smuggled cargo. Granted its mainly enemy orbitals or land bases, where im wanted or notorious or both. But it does work. As for 'in the first place', well it's occupational hazard so just find a way round it

Isn’t it true that you can’t get notoriety by doing any PP activities? If so, then why should a PP stronghold carrier ignore it? It has nothing to do with the power’s trust, notoriety can only be assigned by committing a crime. If that crime was committed because of sloppiness, ineptitude or carelessness, do the time and learn from it. Don’t complain that the carrier should make an exception for you.

In this particular case however, if you truly have to wait 20 hours, then you have a notoriety of 10! That’s the highest level that you can get. That doesn’t happen with simple carelessness. Do the time.

It's not really about that. Not being able to pay off fines due to notoriety is an odyssey-specific bug they seem unable to fix.

Making Stronghold Carriers ignore it is a handy bandaid that makes sense, lore-wise, given they've apparently been unable to fix the problem for 3 years.

But anyway, yeah, you actually absolutely can get notoriety for powerplay related activities. For example, Archon Delaine is actively encouraged to commit crimes to get merits.

Does it REALLY make sense that you can be a servant of the pirate king, kill people in accordance with the pirate king's orders, and then get punished for 20 hours for doing so?

archon's rank-100 capstone should be "anonymous access isn't real idiot" and just let his people dock and do business at his station regardless of fines or bounties

edit: honestly the other powers could do with a capstone bonus that isn't just "you get to make credits slightly faster" too

To me it does. If they ignored notoriety then bad actors would pledge to AD and face no consequences whatsoever for notoriety, which would eliminate the only (tiny) consequences there are for committing crimes.

Just out of curiosity, since I’m not pledged to AD, what weekly assignments does he issue that cannot be accomplished without getting notoriety?

They still wouldn't be able to pay off bounties committed outside their space, since you'd need an interstellar factor for that, and those aren't on stronghold carriers. You'd just be able to pay off local bounties and fines.

It's not about weekly assignments, though. In the big picture those don't matter very much. For context, you can only get about 5000 points of system progress per week doing them, while most top players get 10x-20x that much doing the actually productive activities.

Of course, nobody will actually reveal their strategies to protect opsec.

That's exactly what happens at level 100 when you receive 100% reduction in bounties in Delaine space

The challenge with stronghold carriers in particular is you have huge numbers of NPCs swarming around them. They often fly right in front of you.

You can hardly expect people to fly 100m/s all the way in from 10km out!
I seem to remember that you don’t get fines for collisions when using an ADC, if true that might be a way around it.

Remember when Zac said that stronghold carriers are going to be like this?
