Stroppy Passengers...

So I get a nice 1.6 mill passenger mission, quick tour couple of hundred light years no biggy and they "don't want to be scanned".

Fair enough - head out there take them to the first stop drop in quick scan of beacon hi wake out to next station all going good.

Get to final destination and get "Oh this pirate is after me, please kill them for me"

Ok, im in my cobra mk3 which is built more for speed than shooty but has reasonable guns and shields - I say what the hell im nearly home lets do it.

Pirate interdicts me (I check the name and the fact its the mission target) then I submit, he scans me as I wait for the wanted to appear - and then passenger throws an epo and refuses to pay!

YOU told me to kill him, I wish I had an option to flush their lifeless corpse into the vacuum of space!

I just imagine there's a mad party going on back there. Need new clothes? Someone lost a bet and had to drink a bottle of Senna did they? Makes sense that they'd need the whole ton. Don't want to be scanned by anyone? One of those parties is it? My lips are sealed, you all just do your thing.

Or fish. Three tons of fish. You know, I just try not to wonder what's going on back there any more. I get into port, the cabins auto-sanitize, and I go on with my life.

I've had this too.

Okay, I get that you don't want to be scanned but you asked me to space these guys and, given that they're now a pile of dust, what does it matter if you get scanned or not?

I really wish they'd integrate this sort of thing into the gameplay properly; your first priority would be to do stuff sneakily but then, if somebody scanned you, you'd have to chase them down and destroy them to retain your cover.
DB has always said combat should be "meaningful" and this is an area where combat could be meaningful.

Whilst you can ignore a passenger for no apparent ill effect.
I believe at the point when you land or hand in the passenger mission it resolves, the happiness level at that point as if you have said no.

Just did one where she demanded I source some commodities to make the trip better AS I was docking at the destination - let's say I ignored that one 😄

Yeah, I'd forgotten about the occasional demands for fish. Of all the things they could ask for on a ship that's mainly flying through lawless systems. 10 million credits for the mission payment is plenty enough hush money. Ask for a combination of slaves, narcotics and battle weapons if you're paying that amount for all I care.

Saying that, if you gave me that sort of shopping list I might genuinely be tempted to go off route to get them.

This is why I don't do passenger missions.

YOU told me to kill him, I wish I had an option to flush their lifeless corpse into the vacuum of space!

And they also asked:

and they "don't want to be scanned".

This condition wasn't revoked. You were asked to KILL while AVOIDING scans. Sadly, passengers demands are out of touch and logic (who would've thought) it introduces more problems and frustration than actual fun. I once tried passenger missions but after few such incidents I'm skipping on that as it never existed. Current mechanic i sso flawed that you can fail due to reasons beyond your control. I really love game design where you fail just because.

On a side note - you can safely ignore demands. When you get the mail just read it and don't click anything. No accept, no refuse, nothing. They can demand whatever they want but since you haven't stated your action toward it it's like spam. No consequences from not taking action about how to react.

Ok, mr passenger, we are at your destination, money pls. Oh, you wanted 15t of kitchen appliances and you sent me mail? Sorry, didn't noticed, been too busy avoiding scans, per requested. Now gtfo. Pleasethankyoubye"

If there was a way to separate passengers from their Biotech Conductors without completing tourist missions, there'd be a lot more slaves/corpses in the galaxy.

Speaking of separating... Yesterday as I was trying to fall asleep I devised a cunning plan on how to get, in a legit, lore friendly and totally logic way those engineering materials.

Why not craft them? Too obvious, I know. Gather raw mats as usual and visit some high tech world. And simply buy Biotech Conductors, paying with raw mats + some credits crafting fee. Simple and elegant solution, we could save few passenger lives.

Those follow-on requests should be in the 'placeholders' thread, since they are best ignored. With a bit of tweaking they could be really interesting.

Imagine of they offered G5 mats for finding them Consumer technology...
