After 3 years of faithful service, the headset cable on my G1 is on the way out and I need to replace it. Sounds easy right - nope, It's not the cable that plugs into the PC ( they're easy to find ), it's the cable which houses the female display port connector for which the other end goes into the display port socket on the G1 PCB itself. Luckily that end is just an ordinary male DP plug.
I have just had a really daft idea of buying e.g. a regular 8k high bandwidth DP extension but if I connect it to the regular cable which goes to the PC I'll have to bind the whole thing up so it doesn't get pulled out of the connector by the cables own weight when I move my head.
Looking at the whole assembly, it appears that the only reason there are two cables with a connector in the middle is so that the cable on the PC side can be swapped for different lengths. Otherwise I don't see any value in the connector at all.
I did find this on HP's website but I can't tell whether it's just the PC side cable or if it includes the cable that goes inside the headset and on to the PCB.
