Im not sure if I have asked this question a couple months ago or had this problem before but launcher gets stuck on "prepare for update". How do I fix that again?

Your launcher is need of an infusion of chronoton particles.
You can either direct a chronoton stream at it or allow the chronotons to accumulate naturally.

also the game actually updated itself all the while displaying the "prepare for update". Here I was preparing and preparing for the update to begin and then it was all over. I guess update is what happens to you while you are busy preparing for updating?

But wouldn't that cause the power core to overload and eventually destabilise? I believe positrons would have a more positive outcome, but we need to hurry commander, we do not have much time!

Us a tachyon field. That will contain the chronotons!
Be careful with positrons. Being that they're antimatter, if you get enough of them in one spot, it can cause tears in the space-time continuum. The last time I messed with them, I went forward in time by several hours. (Or maybe I took a nap. Can't really recall.)

The 2.3 beta is not yet available and the launcher works perfectly.
If you are having trouble - I can only assume that you are not starting ED.
